Meet Clementine! A gentle soul with a survivor’s heart and the softest, quietest kind of bravery.
Clementine spent almost a year as a stray in South Dallas, living near the freeway and watching cars rush by. She learned how to survive on her own, befriending a Rottweiler at an auto body shop who became her one constant friend. She was incredibly elusive and crossed six busy lanes of traffic daily—her world was loud and scary, but she endured it all. Eventually, she was safely trapped, and her life finally began to slow down.
Now about 1 year old and 50 lbs, Clementine is discovering what it means to be safe. She is dog-friendly, crate trained, and potty trained, and she’s currently working on her leash skills. She’s very food motivated and has already learned sit—a big win for a girl who’s still learning to trust.
Clementine is shy with strangers and can be skittish, especially with sudden movements or unfamiliar people. She’s not fully comfortable with being touched yet and may run away if she feels overwhelmed, so a calm home with no kids under 12 is a must. While she isn’t a cuddle bug (yet!), she does enjoy quietly sitting on the couch next to you and happily entertains herself with toys.
Other dogs are her comfort zone and confidence boost—a home with at least one other dog is required. She takes her cues from them and truly blossoms when she has a canine friend to follow and learn from.
Clementine is heartworm positive, but she’s on the path forward and ready for someone to walk it with her.
She’s looking for a patient, kind adopter who understands that trust is built slowly and gently. With time, consistency, and love, Clementine will continue to grow into the amazing dog she’s meant to be. Watching her come out of her shell is incredibly special—and she’ll reward you with quiet companionship and a deep, earned bond.
If you believe in giving second chances and have a soft spot for the shy ones, Clementine might just be your girl.
