My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello everyone! My name is Kellan, and if you’re looking for a silly outgoing boy who will make friends with anyone, look no further. When I first arrived at my foster home, I couldn’t BELIEVE how many toys there were to play with. I got so excited I immediately figured out how to carry 2-3 in my mouth at the same time, even though I’m still just a wee pup! Be sure to ask my foster mom about how much I love bath time. I’m super friendly, but am honestly really content to play with my toys on my blanket, so my foster mom appreciates that I have a bit of independence as well!

Kellan is ridiculously adorable (of course), but is the kind of puppy that makes you smile just watching him. Seeing him hop from toy to toy and covertly try to bring them back to his “stash” is pretty funny. He’s already been meeting different people both young and old and is happy to make friends with anyone. When it comes to other dogs, he’ll be one of the first to run up and say hello! He sleeps in a large pen with his siblings currently and is quiet overnight. He’s a pro at using his turf potty area and should transition well to house training in a new home. If you’re looking for a fun and silly buddy, you need to meet Kellan!

Kellan is estimated to be 9 weeks old and 10 lbs. Since we don’t know the dog’s actual genetics, this is just a guess on breed and size when grown. All dogs have had a vet examination, are up to date on all vaccinations, have been given dewormer and heartworm prevention. Dogs over 7 months have been heartworm tested.

If you are interested in meeting this dog please complete the adoption application on our website at https://safehandsrescue.org/adoption-process/ and then we can contact you about setting up a meeting.

We are also holding the following upcoming adoption events!

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We only adopt out animals to homes within 60 miles of the Twin Cities. Our adoption process begins with the return of our pre-adoption form, available on our website. After reviewing your application a meeting is scheduled between you and the pup, sometimes in the fosters home or at a neutral dog friendly place. If any resident dogs are in your home, it is recommended that the pups meet at this time. After the meeting a home visit is scheduled and if everything goes well with the visit the adoption is finalized at that time. A home visit by one of Safe Hands representatives is REQUIRED prior to finalizing any adoption and we must meet all members of the household where the pup will be living sometime during the adoption process.

Go meet their pets

Come on out and meet all of our great adoptable pups!! On weekends we have meetings at random locations. See our events page on our website or social media.

More about this rescue

Safe Hands is a 501(c)(3) non profit organization dedicated to saving lives and finding forever homes for stray, abandoned and surrendered dogs in high kill shelters. Of great importance to us is to reduce the stray population and need for healthy animal euthanasia through spay/neuter programs, education, and promotion of respect for the furry creatures that share our lives.

We are a small, no-kill, volunteer run organization. All of our dogs listed are in foster homes waiting to be adopted and because of this, we get to know the dogs' personalities very well and use this information to match them to an appropriate home. We do not have a physical shelter.

This rescue is not funded by public funds nor does it receive many donations so it is dependent on adoption fees to keep operating. We have a great need for foster homes. If you are interested in providing foster care, and live within an hour of the Twin Cities, please e-mail us
Donations ALWAYS needed are: dog crates, puppy pee pads, natures miracle (for pet stain removal), Nutrisource brand puppy and dog food, Lysol disinfecting wipes, paper towels, large clean towels, dog toys, leashes, collars and gas cards to help with our transports.
