Meet Periwinkle

Periwinkle is a deeply affectionate, people-oriented girl who thrives on closeness and connection. She seeks constant reassurance from her humans and will happily lean into you for snuggles, follow you from room to room, and curl up nearby just to know you’re there. Being close to her people is where she feels safest, and she truly bonds with her person.

She’s incredibly intelligent — sometimes too smart for her own good — and has figured out how to open doors and food containers. Periwinkle is food-motivated and eager to learn, making her very responsive to positive reinforcement and treats. She enjoys running alongside you and does so politely, and she’ll let you know if someone enters the space or if she needs to go outside to potty. She’s also wonderfully kid-friendly and does great with children of all ages.

Periwinkle does struggle with separation anxiety and can become distressed when left alone. Because of this, she needs a home where someone is around most of the time and can continue working patiently on confidence-building and independence. She may bark to alert and can be reactive toward other dogs, but with slow, thoughtful introductions she can coexist well — especially with dogs smaller than herself.

Periwinkle needs an experienced, patient owner who is home frequently and understands anxiety and dog reactivity, and who can support her as she learns to feel safe and secure.

A fenced yard is helpful but not required if her exercise and enrichment needs are met. While she may not be ideal for a first-time giant or anxious-dog owner, Periwinkle will absolutely flourish with the right person — rewarding them with unwavering loyalty, intelligence, and endless affection.

If you’re looking for a constant companion who wants nothing more than to be by your side, Periwinkle just might be your perfect match.

More about this rescue

Just Giant Rescue Inc (JGRI) is a dog rescue catering to giant breed dogs. We don’t discriminate against breed, but they must be giants such as the regal Great Dane, loyal Mastiff, and clownish Saint Bernard, to name a few.

We strive to follow the 3 R’s.
• Rescuing. We rescue from all types of situations, owner surrenders, and from local shelters. We strive to help as many as we can, with what resources we have available.
• Rehabilitating. All dogs are fostered inside loving homes, becoming temporary family members. They are fully vet checked, vaccinated, spayed/neutered, and guarded against heartworm, fleas and ticks. They are also given a temperament test prior to being eligible for adoption.
• Re-homing. Each dog is individually matched with the best suited adoptive home for them. Each applicant wanting to adopt must fill out an application and complete a home check prior to being approved.
