My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

While Leos may typically be ferocious lions, this Leo is more akin to the Cowardly Lion with her reserved nature. Leo prefers to observe her enviornment before she's willing to make any decisions but give her some time to cook and she'll become your new best friend! This girl is cuddly, affectionate, and the perfect companion for those late night TV binges or just a long day of work from home.

Kids: Due to her reserved nature, we recommend kids 12+ who can respect her boundaries.

Cats: Leo is not a fan of feline friends at all. She cannot be adopted to a home with cats.

Dogs: Leo has never met a dog before. We advise caution and supervision during introductions following a proper acclimation period for the best chance of success.

Leo is spayed, microchipped, and fully up-to-date on vaccines & preventions. For more information or to meet Leo, please complete an adoption application and WCHS will reach out as soon as possible!

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Our adoptions are processed same day! All we ask is for an adoption questionnaire and survey to be completed as well as a copy of the adopter's state ID in order to assure they are at least 18 years old.

Each animal has a fee which must be paid at the time of adoption and there is a small amount of paper to be completed as well.

We ask that adopted animals safely leave the shelter either in a carrier or in a leash and collar.

All adoptable animals have been spayed/neutered, received, age appropriate vaccinations, and a microchip! Cats have been tested for FIV and FeLV. Dogs have been tested for heartworm as well as kept current on flea and heartworm prevention.

More about this shelter

The Wood County Humane Society was originally founded in 1904, and has been committed to the well-being of many different species of domesticated animals that require our help. In 1988, the Minniebelle Conley Shelter was established through the generous legacy of the Minniebelle Conley Trust, and our current location was built to provide these services, and has continually been doing so since. We are a private, non-profit, limited admission, 501(c) (3) organization and rely on the generous contributions and donations of our members and residents of Wood County. We do not receive any funding from the ASPCA or the Humane Society of the United States for our daily operations.
