My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Mr. Bean is an easygoing gentleman who believes life is better when it’s calm, cozy, and shared with kind humans. He’s not a picky eater, is perfectly polite, and takes his daily routines very seriously. A true cuddle enthusiast, he loves being petted and gently combed, and once you earn your first head scratch, his mission becomes clear: get as close to you as physically possible.

He can be a little shy at first with new people, but his curiosity and affection always win out. Give him a moment, move gently, and you’ll see him blossom into a devoted companion. He’s also wonderfully content relaxing on his own in his little room, making him a great balance of independent and affectionate.

Mr. Bean has a laid-back play style — lazy toy batting rather than Olympic-level acrobatics. He’s been great with older kids and would probably do well with a gentle younger child who understands how to be respectful of a cat’s boundaries.

He’s shown himself to be very open-hearted with other animals too. With slow, positive introductions, Mr. Bean could happily coexist with other cats and dogs. He’s already proven how brave he can be, calmly sharing space (and mealtimes!) with both feline and canine housemates.

Considering Mr. Bean is still new to indoor life, his adjustment has been nothing short of amazing. Each day, his confidence grows, and it’s clear he’s ready to trade survival mode for a life filled with comfort, safety, and love.
Mr. Bean is a sweet, hopeful little guy who’s ready to find his forever home — one where he can stretch out, settle in, and finally enjoy the peaceful, pampered life he deserves.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Potential adopters are carefully screened to ensure we find the right forever home for the dogs and cats we rescue. Since animals live in foster homes, we get to know their personality and temperament. The adoption process allows us to learn about you, so that we can help find the perfect match for your home.

ADOPTION PROCESS

After finding a cat or dog that you are interested in, you'll need to complete an adoption application either online (https://henricohumane.org) or at an adoption stand. An adoption coordinator will review your application to ensure your situation matches the needs of the animal you're interested in. If completing an application online, please note, every question must be answered on the application for it to be reviewed by an adoption coordinator. As part of the review process, we'll request references. Because we are an all-volunteer organization, it may take up to 48 hours for an adoption coordinator to contact you.

ADOPTION FEES:
All of our adoption fee amounts can be found here:
https://www.henricohumane.org/adopt

The adoption fee covers the cost of shots, spay/neuter, microchipping and worm/flea treatments.

Go meet their pets

Adoption stands are held on Saturdays at Petco Short Pump (Next to Trader Joe's) minus major holiday weekends. Adoption stands are from 11-2 but please see our stand schedule for up to date information. (https://henricohumane.org/events/).

Please note that not all animals come to stand so if you are interested in a specific animal, please email dogs@henricohumane.org or cats@henricohumane.org on the Friday prior to stand. Thank you!

More about this rescue

Henrico Humane Society is an all-volunteer, foster-based,
non-profit organization that rescues dogs and cats from
across Central Virginia and places them in loving, forever
homes.

HHS has saved hundreds of animals each year since
1991. Many of the dogs and cats we rescue come from
shelters in rural areas where they have fewer adoption
opportunities. The majority of the animals in our care live
with foster parents until they find a permanent home.

We don't have a shelter and most of our animals live in foster homes until they're adopted, which allows us to get to know their personality and temperament. Applicants are carefully screened to ensure we find the right forever home for the dogs and cats we rescue. Our adoption process allows us to learn about potential adopters so we can help find the perfect matcher their home.
