My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Eugene - Smart, Energetic, and Ready for a Job!

Eugene is a 4-year-old, 40-pound Australian Cattle Dog (Blue Heeler) who came to us as a stray. He’s a kind-hearted, high-energy boy with that classic Heeler intelligence and drive.

Shelter life has been tough on Eugene. He circles and barks in his kennel — not because he’s a “bad” dog, but because he’s a working breed with energy to burn and a busy mind that needs direction. Dogs like Eugene thrive with structure, exercise, and a purpose.

He will need continued training, especially around other dogs, and would do best with an experienced, active owner who understands the breed and is committed to helping him succeed.

Eugene is Neutered, Vaccinated, Heart worm tested, & Microchipped.

He isn’t for everyone — but for the right person, Eugene will be an incredibly loyal, intelligent, and devoted partner.

More about this shelter

Norman Animal Welfare is a municipal shelter operated and funded by the City of Norman, Oklahoma. In addition to providing a safe environment for our adoptable animals we also are responsible for the enforcement of all animal related laws within the City of Norman and holding all stray animals that are located. In addition to these main roles, we also provide public microchipping, city pet licensing, and other educational services to our community.
We average approximately 3,400 animals in and out of our facility each year. We have an amazing facility that fully opened in 2016. We operate daily with a very limited staff supported by several amazing volunteers. We operate an active foster program and are always seeking to work with those in our community interested in assisting us in our mission.
