My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Shori

Age: 1 year

Sex: Neutered male

Breed: Jindo mix

Color: Black / White

Weight: 13.7 kg

Height: 42 cm (shoulder height)

Rescue Story

Shori arrived at a municipal shelter as a young puppy along with his littermates. While all of his siblings were adopted, Shori was left behind and spent nearly a full year growing up in the shelter.

In late December, he was finally rescued and transferred to the AKR Center—where he’s now learning what love, play, and freedom feel like.

People Socialization

Shori likes people, but when meeting strangers, he tends to bark first—his way of saying “Who are you?”

Once treats are involved, he warms up quickly and allows gentle touching. At first, being picked up made him uneasy, so slow and careful handling was needed. As he gets comfortable, though, he’s totally fine being scooped up (even enthusiastically—though he may still wiggle sometimes!).

Once he considers you his person, Shori becomes very affectionate, follows you around, and happily shows his belly.

Dog Socialization

Shori is very social

He approaches both familiar and unfamiliar dogs with enthusiasm, inviting them to play. If he thinks it’ll be fun, he can be persistent about it.

He generally does well with most dogs, especially those similar in size or larger. He can play with smaller, high-energy dogs too, but more timid dogs may find him a bit overwhelming.

When play gets too intense for him, he’ll vocalize briefly and retreat—he’s not aggressive and communicates clearly.

Cats

No direct experience with cats yet, but cat testing is possible.

Energy Level

Shori is an active, playful young dog. After spending nearly a year in a shelter, he’s making up for lost time and loves playing nonstop with other dogs at the center.

A home with another playful dog would be a great match for him.

Walking & Leash Skills

He walks nicely on leash without pulling and does well in quiet areas.

Busy roads and heavy traffic still make him nervous, so he’s currently practicing and building confidence.

Other Notes

• No food guarding toward people

• Has a strong appetite and sometimes tries to steal food from other dogs—meals may be fed separately to avoid scuffles

• No separation anxiety

• Dislikes being confined; vocalizes when placed in a crate

• Nervous about getting into cars and needs to be carried in

• May poop shortly after meals and sometimes overnight

• Currently uses both indoor pee pads and outdoor potty

Shori is a bright, affectionate young dog who just needs a bit of patience, structure, and understanding as he continues adjusting to life outside the shelter. With the right home, he’ll thrive into a loyal, playful companion.

More about this rescue

Adopt Korean Rescue is a volunteer-based federally registered not-for-profit organization dedicated to helping homeless and unwanted dogs in South Korea find a new home in Canada.

We love Korean dogs. Many of them live in chains, give birth on the side of the road, or wander around with their pups. Some of them get caught and end up at dog meat farms or high-kill shelters in South Korea. They luckily meet us just before euthanasia or after many years of living in dog meat farms. We exist to hold their paws and help them find a forever home in Canada full of joy and happiness.
