My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Mary Monroe: A Pint-Sized Athlete with Brains to Match Her Beauty

Mary is a bright, high-energy sparkplug with the raw talent and drive of a professional athlete. At just one year old and a nimble 13 pounds, this Jack Russell/Chihuahua mix is the perfect fusion of lightning speed and sharp intellect.

Training as the Ultimate Playtime

For Mary, training isn’t just about "learning manners"—it is her favorite way to bond. She views a training session as the ultimate game of teamwork. Much like a game of fetch or a romp in the park, working through cues and learning new skills is how Mary says "I love you." She possesses a "work hard, play hard" philosophy. Her intelligence shines during canine enrichment; she eagerly tackles complex dog puzzles and shows incredible focus during interactive play. Because she craves this mental connection, she is looking for a teammate who understands that a training session is just as much fun as a game of tug.

Mary’s Ideal Teammate(s)

Mary is seeking a highly active family committed to positive reinforcement training. She isn't just a "walks only" dog; she is a partner who thrives when she has a job to do. To be her best self, she needs:

  • A Social Circle: A home with another young, active, and well-socialized dog to help her burn off physical energy.

Mary is a loyal soul who takes her 'inner circle' seriously. She practiced the 'stranger danger' rule and prefers to take things slow with new faces. To help her feel her best, her forever family will need to lead the way with structured, leashed introductions. Once she knows you’re a friend, her true, affectionate personality shines through!

  • Structure & Boundaries: Continued crate time (which she excels at) and clear rules to help her feel secure and confident.

  • A Calm Environment: While she’s a city girl, loud noises like trucks can still startle her. She would thrive in a structured, low-traffic home with older children only.

Balance: From Star Athlete to World-Class Napper

The best part of Mary? Once the "work" is done and her mind is satisfied, she melts into a plush bed for a nap after a productive training session.

She has shown no signs of separation anxiety and settles beautifully in her crate. She enjoys her "me time" with enrichment activities, like a frozen Kong, followed by a cozy snooze.

Note to Adopters: Mary recently completed a professional Board & Train program. To set her (and you!) up for a lifetime of success, her adopter will participate in upto three (3) transition sessions with our partner trainer. This ensures you and Mary start your journey speaking the same language.

If you are looking for a brilliant canine partner who will challenge your mind and warm your heart, Mary Monroe is the teammate you’ve been waiting for!

Vaccinated for rabies, DHPP, and bordetella. Neutered and microchipped. Current on flea, tick, and heartworm prevention.

It is important to fill out an application as soon as possible for consideration. We are currently unable to respond to general email inquiries as an all-volunteer run rescue. If the dog is on our website, they are still available.

Waggytail Rescue CANNOT guarantee the exact age of any adoptable dog, or final size of any of our adoptable puppies. We rely on the information provided to us by veterinarians, shelters, owner surrenders and other circumstances bringing the dog into our rescue.
