My name is CHEWY (SRC#3611) IN VIRGINIA!

My name is CHEWY  and although they do not have my birthday the vet says I am about 1   year old.  I weigh approximately    pounds.  I am a black and tan Mini Schnauzer neutered male with distinct Natural Ears and a Natural Tail.  My color is black with brown markings  .  I am microchipped, have all my vaccinations, am heart-worm negative, been neutered  and will have been evaluated for at least 4 weeks by my foster family who are located in Roanoke, Virginia.

(SRC#3611)  CHEWY's  Story

 CHEWY with this unique identification number: (SRC#3611 ) came into SRC care recently and is being  prepared for adoption by a foster family who have gone thru our approval process.  It is truly a miracle the way dogs have the capacity to forgive and be happy no matter what they have been through! When I heard of this precious pup's past history, I was overcome with sadness yet Chewy (who by the way is not a chewer) has remained a sweet and happy Mini Schnauzer puppy.  For his short lifetime this adorable little boy has been so mistreated. He was originally with someone who was going to find him a good home.  In the  meantime this puppy was placed with two very large dogs, and for some unknown reason he was sent back to the Shelter to experience this betrayal once again. Strangely although he was taken to be adopted out, he came to us with nothing except a Rabies vaccine.  When Chewy was sent to the Shelter again, they contacted SRC and we were honored to help him. His total vetting cost SRC a little over $1100 to assure that he was vetted. This included a PROHART12 so that this little one would not have to worry about being protected from Heartworms for another year. Chewy went to a great foster home with someone who has also adopted from SRC in the past, so she speaks "Schnauzer" very well.

Here is the way that she would describe Chewy and this was what she had to say about him when I asked her to give me his good and bad traits:

HOUSETRAINED, ENERGETIC, WALKS WELL ON A LEASH, DOES WELL WITH OTHER DOGS HIS OWN SIZE AND GENTLE LARGER DOGS, DOESN'T PARTICULARY  LIKE HAVING SWEATERS TAKEN ON/OFF, and my personal favorite was LOVING ("He can't hold his licker").

Read this list for yourself and decide if he actually had any bad traits in this.  Personally I think that especially considering what Chewy has gone thru in his short life I could not find even one bad trait!  Better hurry up and apply to adopt this baby boy!

When ready for adoption this dog will be heart-worm  tested (negative), de-wormed, vaccinations brought up to date,  neutered if not done already, micro-chipped, examined fully by a vet and any necessary medical issues found by this vet will have  been addressed. It is anticipated that this dog will be released for adoption by the same date as the completion of the Evaluation. The date of release of this dog is at the discretion of the SRC Core Team.

Tax-deductible donation requested at time of adoption for this dog is $650.00 (SRC invested over $1100.00 in this boy's vetting.

When ready for adoption, this canine will have been evaluated for a minimum of two weeks by loving SRC foster parents who will be able to give the prospective adoptive parents their opinion about the demeanor of this family companion  prior to the prospective adoptive parents finalizing their adoption of this canine.  All our SRC Volunteers strive to do this for the well-being of all the rescued canines in SRC's care and to assure a successful and happy adoption for our rescued Schnauzers and their new Adoptive Parents. It is our worthy mission to assure that each canine rescued by SRC is placed in a loving, stable and permanent home whose family members will treat it as a beloved member of their immediate family. We at SRC are prepared to assure that all of  our rescued dogs are in great homes or we will reclaim them if necessary.

SRC’s rescued dogs are  placed in foster homes throughout NC, SC, TN, and VA until they are adopted. These same states are SRC's approved adoption areas so please do not apply unless you live in one of these states. You must be willing to drive to the dog's foster home in order to adopt the canine. BEFORE meeting an SRC dog, you must be approved to adopt by our Placement Team. Once you have completed the application, please include your vet medical records along with photos of your home (interior and exterior including your yard) -- these may be used in lieu of a home visit due to the problems with issues with Covid since it is still very prevalent in some areas.  These changes have been initiated for the protection of our applicants and for our volunteers.  Once this virus and measles along with other viruses have subsided to the point that people are not dying many horrific viruses, then SRC will go back to our standard protocol with home visits being conducted. These will not be done until  so many contagions are no longer an issue. Upon receipt of your application, your medical records, and photos of your home (interior and exterior), the entire file will be processed and reviewed by the Core Team which may take up to seven days, depending on your location and the number of applications being processed at that time. Satisfactory files will also be reviewed by foster parent.  Someone from the Core Team along with the Foster Parent will be in touch with you to ask any questions that might be outstanding and to answer any questions you may have.  At that point an adoption may be discussed and arranged.

Please plan on welcoming your new dog into your home within two weeks after approval. We cannot hold dogs because this limits our intake of others in need; SRC adopts them out on a first-come, first-serve basis based on a completed approved adoption process. If you are unable to accept your adopted dog within this time frame then SRC will go to the next approval and place with someone able to give the rescue a home within the proper time frame.

SRC does not ordinarily adopt its dogs to families with children under ten years of age. Exceptions are sometimes made on a case by case basis but only when the dog has been raised with children and the children are very respectful of animals.  This is for the protection of the dogs and for the protection of the children.

Procedures will be explained to you at the time of approval regarding the necessary donation and the adoption contract. Your donation is made in honor of the adoption of your new family companion and is never a purchase of an animal.  This tax deductible donation goes forward to help incoming rescued dogs. Our average total expense per dog includes but is not limited to the list of  expenses shown below.

 SRC  wants to thank you for your interest in our rescued dogs. We put our heart and souls into saving their lives.  Often the medical expense, time and effort expended to help these dogs, far outweighs the minimal donation requested to adopt these innocent ones.  Please understand SRC is limited in the number of dogs in our safe haven and if you are not selected to adopt one of them, it is not a reflection on your ability to provide a good home for a canine, simply our lack of ability to provide for the overwhelming demand from applicants.  SRC urges you to always pursue rescue -- it is definitely a worthy mission even if you do not adopt from SRC. Please check out the rescue organization of your choice since there has been such an increase in available rescues.  Some are respectable and do an excellent job with their canines as that is their calling, others do not.
