Our Adoption Process

Because we are a small shelter with limited staffing, we kindly ask that potential adopters review our available animals on our website and submit an application before visiting. This allows us to better assist you and provide proper care for our animals.

Step 1: Submit an Application
View our available pets online and complete an adoption application for the animal you’re interested in. After submitting your application, please call the shelter to confirm it was received.

Step 2: Application Review & Approval
Our team will review your application. Please wait for a phone call from our staff before coming to the shelter, as meet-and-greets are scheduled after approval.

Step 3: Meet the Pet
Once approved, we will schedule a meet-and-greet so you can spend time with the animal and ensure it’s a good fit.

Step 4: Sign the Adoption Contract
If the match is right, you’ll complete and sign the adoption agreement.

Step 5: Pay the Adoption Fee
Adoption fees help support the care of animals at our shelter.

Step 6: Take Your New Pet Home
After everything is finalized, your new family member is ready to go home with you!

The Los Banos Animal Shelter is a small, community-based shelter located in Los Banos, California, proudly operated by the Los Banos Police Department. Our mission is to provide safe, compassionate care for animals in need while working to reunite lost pets with their families and find loving homes for those waiting for adoption.

Our shelter includes 28 dog kennels and 15 cat kennels, allowing us to provide individualized attention and daily care for each animal. We are staffed by a dedicated team of two Animal Control Officers and two Kennel Attendants who are committed to the health, safety, and well-being of every animal that comes through our doors.

As a small shelter with limited resources, we rely on dedication, teamwork, and strong community partnerships. We work closely with 501(c)(3) rescue organizations, which are able to pull animals from our shelter and help place them into adoptive homes. While our space and resources may be modest, our commitment to humane care and second chances is strong.
