Meet Dixie
Dixie is a bubbly, curious, and affectionate young dog, around 1 year old and about 14 pounds. She came into foster care a little unsure of the world but settled in quickly. She bonds fast with her people and loves attention just as much as playtime. Once she feels safe, her personality really shines.
She is mostly house-trained and does well with a consistent routine. Dixie is comfortable in a crate and settles quietly, making her an easy transition into a new home. Inside the house, she’s curious, playful, and respectful when her needs for activity and engagement are met.
Dixie does very well with other dogs and enjoys having canine companions. She especially gravitates toward smaller dogs and has shown a strong preference for playful, confident dog friends. Her play style can be vocal and enthusiastic, so she does best with dogs who enjoy interaction and aren’t bothered by a chatty playmate. During meals, she may growl around other dogs, so separate feeding is recommended.
With people, Dixie is friendly and social. She may be a bit shy at first in new situations but warms up quickly. She enjoys affection and likes to stay close to her people. She’s playful without being overwhelming and would be fine with respectful kids who understand dog boundaries.
Dixie knows basic cues including sit, down, and come, and she is continuing to improve her leash skills. She may pull a bit at times but responds well to redirection and is getting better with practice.
She has moderate to high energy and would thrive in an active home that enjoys walks, outdoor play, and continued training. Mental stimulation and structure go a long way with her.
Dixie is sensitive to handling during grooming and does not enjoy baths, though she has shown no aggression. A patient, gentle approach will help her continue to build confidence.
Overall, Dixie is a loving, social little dog who will do best with adopters looking for a fun, engaged companion and who are committed to consistency and follow-through. In return, she offers loyalty, affection, and a whole lot of personality in a small package.
This dog is up to date on vaccinations and is spayed or neutered. (Please note: Puppies under 3 months old may not be sterilized prior to adoption. If this is the case, your adoption coordinator will provide guidance on the process.)
To adopt or learn more about this dog, you must complete an adoption application, which can be found on our website: www.sandypawsrescue.com.
PLEASE READ:
• If a dog or puppy is listed, they are currently available for adoption. However, they may already be pending an adoption, and their profile may not yet reflect this.
• All information is accurate to the best of our knowledge as of the posting date.
• Unless explicitly stated, Sandy Paws Rescue does not guarantee the breed of any dog. Breeds listed are educated guesses made by shelter staff, volunteers, or veterinarians. Many of our dogs are mixed breeds, often with pit bull-type genetics, resulting in a wide variety of physical traits and temperaments.
Our dogs come from various situations, such as kill shelters, owner surrenders, or as strays. It is likely both parents were mixed breeds as well.
Sandy Paws Rescue does not have a public shelter in Massachusetts. Our dogs reside in private foster homes or boarding kennels in the South until adopted. Many dogs are spoken for prior to transport or release from state-mandated isolation.
