My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

🐶 🐕 LOKI Male border collie Mix 4 1/2 years, 40 lbs & AVAILABLE – check out more photos and see the rest of our dogs on our website -- https://norcalbcrescue.org/available-dogs/our-dogs/ 🐕 🐶

LOKI is 40 pounds of love and affection. He is approximately 4 ½ years of age with a smooth, easy to maintain, black and white coat. LOKI adores people. He can think of nothing better than sitting for pets or rolling over for belly rubs. He absolutely loves the attention and adores the physical contact companionship any time of day or night. We had friends over for game night and we were very proud of how he behaved when meeting so many new people all at once.

LOKI gets along well with other dogs, big or small. He loves to run and play, following his foster-siblings around wherever they go. He adored little Maizie, and now spends much of his time with Perkins. He does have the herding instinct and will round up anything on four legs. He pays far too much attention to the kitties and they are not fans, thus he may be best in a home free from felines, or at very least they must be dog savvy as he will stare and then chase.

LOKI loves to play. One of his favorite games is playing fetch with a tennis ball. He will bring the ball back, but he is still learning to “drop it.” It’s almost like he is teasing you to get it from him. He has also never met a Frisbee he doesn’t like. He will run around the yard with it, playing keep-away while getting other dogs to chase him around.

LOKI does best when his people are around. He can get anxious when we leave the house, though he is doing much better than when he first arrived. It is as if he were left alone a lot in the past, with not enough of the interaction and socialization he craves. He is more settled now that he knows he has the other dogs to lean on, and that we are coming back and will engage when we do. We also discovered he is much better off in a large plastic crate than he is a standard wire crate.

LOKI travels well. If he sees an open car door he will hop in expecting to go for a ride. He generally rides in a crate, but would probably be fine in a harness and seatbelt. LOKI is also house and crate trained. He has not had an accident in his foster home. He sleeps quietly in his crate all night, generally not making a peep until we are up or the other dogs are ready for morning business.

LOKI sits on command, but then will try to scoot closer to latch onto your leg and slowly crawl up your body if you let him. While he likes giving hugs we are working to curtail that trait as it seems more of an effort to “hold on” than show affection. It is a work-in-progress. LOKI is a very active boy and acts much younger than his age, yet he does respond to “Settle” or “Enough” and lies down on one of the dog beds.

LOKI may enjoy popular dog sports like agility, nose work, or even Treibball. Training is fun with him because he is both treat and praise motivated. LOKI’S recall is quite good. Usually a sharp whistle and he comes running. Loki can be sensitive to a harsh voice, so calm, firm direction works best with this boy.

LOKI is a sensitive boy who needs the right mix of love, patience, and positive experiences to continue confidence building. If you have love in your heart, the time he’d enjoy, and you understand the needs of a sensitive border collie, LOKI would love to meet you. Include him in all your activities and he will reward you ten-fold.

LOKI is micro-chipped, neutered, heartworm negative and on preventative, and up-to-date on vaccinations. If you have an approved Northern California Border Collie Rescue & Adoptions Adoption Application (https://norcalbcrescue.org/adoption/adoption-application/) and wish to inquire about LOKI, please email us at Adoptions@norcalbcrescue.org. If you have an approved adoption application with Border Collie Rescue of Northern California let us know and we will request it be forwarded to us for consideration.
