My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

If you're searching for the most devoted and loving best friend ever, Marley is the guy you want to have around! Marley, at just about 4 years old and currently 80 lbs is just naturally a lover. When he looks at you with those dark, expressive eyes and sweet smile, your heart can't help but melt.

Marley's ideal weight is approximately 60 - 65 lbs. Farfel's takes our rescue dog's health very seriously and one thing we know for certain is that an overweight dog's life span is several year's shorter than average with a lesser quality of life. Farfel's is happy to advise a diet that will enable Marley to lose weight at a healthy rate, and therefore be able to run and hike longer distances on the gorgeous Colorado trails. It will be bliss for our wonderful Marley!

Marley is a stunning Labrador Retriever / Golden Retriever mix (considered by many to be among the most intelligent, sweet and social family dogs available today) with all the traits that make these personality-plus dogs popular breed mixes for families and individuals searching for a loving and loyal best friend.

Marley has a stunning cottony-soft coat that will require a lifelong commitment to periodic sudsy baths / brushing and excellent nutrition. 5 star food and a daily salmon oil supplement are great choices for hair care and general longevity) to keep Marley's coat cottony-soft and shining with excellent health.

Marley's story took a heartbreaking turn when Farfel's was contacted by his family seeking to rehome Marley due to a house move. He had been with them since 8 weeks old and we want to be clear that this request was through absolutely no fault of his own but apparently due only to his size.

The following is a description of Marley provided by his relinquishing family:

Marley is an extremely affectionate and loving 4 1/2 year old white & blond Labrador and Golden Retriever mix (as identified by a veterinarian. We can't swear to any specific breed mix). We adopted him as a puppy in 2021 and he has adjusted and grown into an amazing guy and best friend for my kids and my husband and myself.

He was originally found in a field in Texas with his twin sister and was a nervous pup when he joined our family. He can still be a bit nervous when on leash and another dog approaches him quickly. He tends to bark to defend himself. People coming to the front door will often receive a welcome bark as well.

Marley benefits from being given the time for slow introductions with both dogs and people. He builds trust very well but he does need a moment for sniffing and hellos.

Marley is friendly and sweet with other dogs and currently lives with a small, older poodle mix. His joy at serious play is obvious...when he senses that other dogs are open to the fun, he's ready for running and playing with them.

Marley loves long walks and hikes. He will do best with space and a yard to run and play in. He currently lives very happily with children ages 7, 13 & 16 and will be greatly missed by them. When Marley's not sleeping in his own bed he can be found sleeping on the rug in our 13 year olds room.
they really love each other.

Farfel's is thrilled to have Marley join our program. He's a young, healthy dog who will love a kind and respectful family with all his heart. He will also enjoy another gentle dog to play with, and then to lie together in the sunshine enjoying a beautiful day. Marley is a happy go lucky pup once used to his environment who will have so much fun exploring and taking walks along gorgeous Colorado trails. He's always open to new activities with a never-ending positive attitude...just say the word and up Marley will jump for a car ride, a fun walk or just a sociable stroll around the neighborhood.

Marley is an extremely affectionate and loving guy once comfortable in his surroundings! We would love to see him in a home with a family or active retirees who have the time and love for a very loyal and kind best companion. We'd hate to see Marley left alone all day while his family works full-time outside of the home. We think he's too sensitive for that. He's such an amazing guy and just the right temperament to accompany his people just about anywhere a very sweet and well-behaved dog is welcome.

Wiley has been completely vaccinated, vetted and neutered. This supports Farfel's commitment to only adopting out healthy dogs as well as our hopes for a future where overpopulation has been controlled and there is no further euthanasia of healthy dogs.

We're currently searching for a very loving, nurturing and committed family for our wonderful Marley. Applications are being accepted for this loyal and devoted best friend and can be found at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/. If interested, please fill out completely and submit.

**PLEASE NOTE** Farfel's Rescue makes every effort to place our dogs with families that are excellent matches. We do this through our Farfel's Rescue application found at the link above or at farfels.com (never through rescue site apps such as Adoptapet or Petfinder as they don't provide enough information). If you're truly interested in adopting Marley please be sure to fill out the Farfel's Rescue adoption application. It's the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving guy. Thanks very much for choosing rescue.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Farfel's Rescue is a fully foster based rescue, and offers a one week trial with every adoption. We feel that this is much more beneficial to not only the dog, but the adopter too. We believe that only getting 20-30 minutes with a dog before deciding on a lifetime commitment is not a fair amount of time to the adopter, or the dog. Therefore we give adopters one week with the dog to assure it is the right fit, and offer a full refund of their adoption fee should it not workout within the week trial.

An Adoption Application and an Adoption Contract must be completed before any dog can begin their one week foster. Our average adoption fee is $695. This amount serves to cover vetting, spay/neuter, all vaccinations, temperament testing, transport, a microchip, harness, food, and treats.
Our dogs come from Texas, Kansas, New Mexico, Oklahoma and rural Colorado.

Adoption application

Go meet their pets

Pets are transported from the southern states every week. Almost 100% of the time, the dogs are spoken for as a result of adoption applications that can be referenced under Adoption at farfelsrescue.com. We study the applications. If the app indicates there is a match, followed up by a home visit and reference checks, the process moves to the next step. The adopter is committing to a one week foster (of course the dog can be returned at any time prior), and can then choose to finalize the adoption.

More about this rescue

We own a pet boutique named Farfel's Farm & Rescue on Pearl Street in Boulder, Colorado. We have had the good fortune to find our niche in the Boulder community and experience success. We felt it very important to "pay it forward" in gratitude. We couldn't think of a better endeavor than to save dogs who were out of time in the southern states, yet had been identified with great temperaments. We dedicate our efforts to their good health and ultimate wonderful, permanent homes.
