My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi! My name is Major! Not because I’m a military man, but because I’m a Major Cutie Pie, I’m Major Love Bug, and I have Major Strength! Did I mention I’m insanely handsome?

A little bit about me, I am a 5-year-old, large mixed breed dude, weighing in at about 65lbs! I’ve been neutered, vaccinated, and I’m up to date on my heartworm testing.

My past was a little rough, but my future is so bright I need shades! I spent a good portion of my life living outside in a kennel. When I arrived at AVAS, I had a severe flea infestation, and a horrible skin condition, I was underweight, and in need of some TLC. I got all of that here, and more! Now it’s my time to find my perfect home - but because my past didn’t set me up for total success, I have some work to do and some specific needs, I’m hoping my family can provide!

I would do best in a home as the only pet. I have a high prey drive, and cats aren’t for me. Because of my size, and strength, I would do better with kids in their teenage years or adults. I also need someone to help me learn the manners I never got as a puppy, ya know like basic commands, and leash manners.

If you can help me build a strong foundation - I’ll be the best dog ever. I love to snuggle, and I love affection, and I’m very food motivated.

If you’d like to meet me, please come by the shelter Tuesday-Saturday 10am-6pm. If you have questions reach out to my friends at AVASCares2@gmail.com or by phone at 989-348-4117. I hope I get to meet you soon!

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

At AuSable Valley Animal Shelter we pride ourselves on making adoption accessible for all those looking to have a pet for companionship. Most of these pets have had an unknown past so we work hard to make sure their futures are safe, secure, and happy. It is always our priority in a new home, that they will be properly cared for and receive the proper veterinary care and home environment they need to live a long and happy life.

More about this shelter

Ausable Valley is a private non-profit No Kill animal shelter. We have a very active core of volunteers and have a play and exercise based enrichment program for all of our animals. AVAS staff work very hard to match pets to people.
