My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi, I’m Dior — a soft-spoken kind of guy just looking for someone patient enough to see me for who I really am.

I’m an orange tabby with a heart that’s a little guarded, but I promise there's love in there — it just takes time to come out. I’m what you’d call a shy soul. New people and new places make me nervous, so I tend to hide under beds, couches, blankets… anywhere I can feel safe while I figure things out. But if you’re calm and patient with me, I do warm up — and when I do, cheek and head pets are my absolute favorite!

I’m not into toys, and I’m not a lap cat. Please don’t try to pick me up — that really stresses me out. I’d do best in a quiet home without small children, where I can be my low-key self and come out on my own terms. You might not see much of me during the day, rather I’m the kind of cat who will quietly pad around at night, exploring when the world is quiet.

One thing I do love? Other cats. I feel safest around feline friends, and I’d really love to have a confident kitty buddy to help show me the ropes.

I’m neutered, up to date on my vaccinations, microchipped, and litter trained — ready to settle into a home where I can go slow and be accepted just as I am.

If you’ve got a soft spot for the shy ones and a home that’s more “quiet sanctuary” than “busy playground,” I’d love the chance to grow with you. You can reach out to the shelter at 989-348-4117

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

At AuSable Valley Animal Shelter we pride ourselves on making adoption accessible for all those looking to have a pet for companionship. Most of these pets have had an unknown past so we work hard to make sure their futures are safe, secure, and happy. It is always our priority in a new home, that they will be properly cared for and receive the proper veterinary care and home environment they need to live a long and happy life.

Go meet their pets

We are open to the public Tuesday-Saturday from 10am-6pm, you do not need to have an appointment to come in and view our available animals.

More about this shelter

Ausable Valley is a private non-profit No Kill animal shelter. We have a very active core of volunteers and have a play and exercise based enrichment program for all of our animals. AVAS staff work very hard to match pets to people.
