My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi Friends, my name is Moose! I have all sorts of nicknames at the shelter—Moosey Goosey, Moosey Moo, etc.

To me, it really doesn’t matter what you call me, just don’t call me late for dinner.

I am a 7-year-old, completely handsome, medium mixed breed guy! I have been neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and I’m up to date on my heartworm testing.

My life before the shelter is a little foggy, and I don’t remember everything. I know that I knew what love was, and the people that surrendered me—although they only had me for a short time—They very much loved me.

That’s all behind me, and I’m looking forward to my future furever.

I've been spending some time in a foster home, and I'm loving every minute of it. My foster Dad has been able to learn a lot about me, and has given the shelter team a better idea of what I'm looking for in a home. My ideal home would have me as the only pet. I don't enjoy the company of other dogs or cats, and I tend to become very stressed in their presence. I am fully potty trained, and a professional snuggler, I'm a pro at sleeping in and getting extra zzz's. I love toys, absolutely love them! I love hard chew toys, and I love performing surgery on soft ones. I am very respectful of human belongings, and I don't chew anything other than what belongs to me. I love long walks and hiking! I could do well living with older children, who understand how to be respectful of my space. In return for the perfect home, I will offer you all the love you'll ever need from a canine companion.

If you’d like to meet me, please email or call the shelter to set up a meet and greet. I'm hanging out in my foster home with my foster dad, but he is pretty flexible and can make arrangements for us to meet! If you have questions, reach out to AVASCares2@gmail.com or by phone at 989-348-4117.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

At AuSable Valley Animal Shelter we pride ourselves on making adoption accessible for all those looking to have a pet for companionship. Most of these pets have had an unknown past so we work hard to make sure their futures are safe, secure, and happy. It is always our priority in a new home, that they will be properly cared for and receive the proper veterinary care and home environment they need to live a long and happy life.

Go meet their pets

We are open to the public Tuesday-Saturday from 10am-6pm, you do not need to have an appointment to come in and view our available animals.

More about this shelter

Ausable Valley is a private non-profit No Kill animal shelter. We have a very active core of volunteers and have a play and exercise based enrichment program for all of our animals. AVAS staff work very hard to match pets to people.
