Ash is currently living in a foster home, where he's been absolutely thriving. He's completing heartworm treatment and has recovered beautifully - his foster reports he's right back to his sweet, loving self and feeling great. While on restricted activity, Ash proved to be calm, adaptable, and surprisingly content with enrichment, car rides, and quality time with his humans.
At home, Ash is an A+ house guest: ✔️ House-trained ✔️ Knows basic cues like sit, stay, come, wait, and off ✔️ Very people-oriented and affectionate ✔️ Gets along well with familiar dogs and has lived peacefully with them ✔️ Loyal to the core - when he accidentally slipped out the door, he stayed right by his foster and came back inside immediately when called
Ash is also wicked smart (New England approved 😉), which means he'll keep you on your toes. He has a strong desire to explore and can be a bit of an escape artist, so a secure yard, attentive handling, and leash awareness are important for him until that trust is built. Because of his prey drive, Ash cannot live with cats.

Our overall goal is to make sure the animal you adopt is well suited to your lifestyle and that you are ready for him or her. When you visit our adoption center our knowledgeable staff will be happy to answer any questions and help you choose the right animal. These Adoption Counselors will assist you by discussing your interests, needs and lifestyles and then matching them with those of the companion animals in our shelter. The Counselor will read through the adoption application materials with you so it may simplify things for you to have the form completed before you arrive.

The NHSPCA uses a method of training known as Positive Reinforcement. Whether you want to start your new puppy out on the right paw or work on improving your adult dog's behavior we have the perfect class for you and your four legged friend.

The Humane Education program of the New Hampshire SPCA encourages children and adults to develop and express attitudes of compassion, kindness and respect for all living things. Our ever-growing list of programs and workshops are a fun and interactive way to explore the interdependence between humans and animals while learning how to create a more humane community.

Since 1872 animal cruelty investigation has been one of the cornerstones of the NHSPCA. Today our services encompass an even wider range of activities. In addition to investigating hundreds of reports of suspected animal neglect or abuse every year, our agent works with other humane organizations to develop and strengthen legislation that protects animals throughout the State of New Hampshire.
