If you see pets listed by a private owner, it means that they’re adoptable through Adopt a Pet’s Rehome program – the safe and reliable way to find a loving new home for your pet.
We found Ellie in early November in rural Louisiana and she had clearly been fending for herself for quite some time. She was emaciated, tick-covered, and living off whatever scraps she could find in the woods. Since then, she has blossomed into a healthy 50-lb bundle of pure sweetness.
She is extremely affectionate and people-oriented. She is crate trained and housebroken. She walks well on a leash and knows basic commands. She does show some fear responses to loud noises and sudden movements (likely from past trauma). She may cower initially, but does not show any kind of aggression and this will decrease as she builds trust.
To make her transition as smooth as possible, her adoption includes a large crate and crate pad, large dog bed, harness and leash. She would thrive as either a single pet or in a home with other friendly dogs around her size. Unfortunately, our smaller dog doesn't want to share her space which is the only reason why we are trying to find her a new home.
