My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How this pet arrived:
Halen was brought in by his previous owner on February 8, 2026.

Why this pet is the one for you:
Meet Halen - a soulful, goofy pup with a big heart and an adventurous spirit! Halen can be a little cautious when meeting new people, but thanks to positive reinforcement training, this smart boy has made incredible progress. These days, he has lots of friends, can walk past strangers with ease, and stays nicely focused on his handler (especially when treats are involved!). Once Halen feels safe and comfortable, he turns into a total lovebug who soaks up affection-especially petting and attention from his trusted people. Butt scratches are a major favorite! He's also fully potty trained and eager to please. Halen's playful side is as cute as can be. He has a silly habit of tossing his body around during playtime, guaranteed to make you laugh. He's a high-energy guy who loves his walks and would make an excellent hiking buddy. He enjoys the company of other dogs and may even do well with cats. A few things to know about Halen: he's not a fan of rain and may get a bit car sick, though he hops into the car happily on his own. He's also quite agile and has been known to clear a 4-foot fence, so a secure yard and supervision are important. Halen is looking for a calm, low-traffic home without young children (under 8) where he can continue to build confidence and thrive at his own pace. Think this sweet, smart, and silly boy could be your next adventure partner? Bring the whole family and come meet Halen today!

At SDHS:
Halen has been vaccinated, microchipped and neutered. He is now ready for his new home!

Shy/Fearful Dog: Halen requires a virtual behavior consult, please watch THIS video to learn more about him.

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
