My story

Foster Homes Needed!

Do you have time and room in your life for a foster dog?

*****************

Oh Twinkle, she is the social girl, there is no human or dog that is not considered a friend. She's busy and nosey and curious and smart and oh so cute! You can always count on an adventure and laughter with this girl.  We think there is hound and maybe some herder in there too but that's all guess. Her perfect day is breakfast, she's very food motivated.  Then off for a round of playtime, she might even really like a day at daycare. Some outside time and maybe a walk. More play,  dinner, maybe some more social activities and there has to be plenty of snuggling.  A lap is a very inviting spot for Miss Twinkle,  particularly if she is winding down. And she loves her jackets, she will actually wait for you to put them on.  She is about 4 months old. She does great in public, walks great on a leash and sleeps in her crate at night. Potty training is almost there,  her foster mom leaves a pee pad by the door. She gets busy and she knows to use it if her humans miss the signs.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

The first step in our process is the application which can be completed either online or at one of our adoption events. We would then conduct an interview with all members of the household. We do a vet reference if applicable, and lastly, we do a home visit. Our adoption fee is $285 and all dogs are spayed/neutered, up-to-date on all required vaccines, tested for heartworm and tickborne diseases, and on year-round heartworm preventative. Lastly, all dogs are microchipped.

More about this rescue

Mutt Love Rescue is a non-profit, no-kill, volunteer dog rescue organization serving the Washington, DC, metro area. We are dedicated to rescuing dogs left homeless for whatever reason – dogs in public shelters where they are at high risk of euthanasia due to pet overpopulation, dogs given up by their owners because of difficult circumstances, and those in danger of abuse or neglect.

We place dogs in loving, responsible, committed permanent homes, following a comprehensive adoption process which includes taking considerable care in finding good matches and educating prospective adopters about the responsibilities and costs of bringing a dog into their homes and lives.

Animals in our care are spayed or neutered, receive all appropriate veterinary care and treatment, and placed in nurturing foster homes while they await placement in their permanent homes. We assist dogs in distress without regard to age, breed or ease of placement. To the extent our finances allow, dogs in the greatest need take priority.

We are determined to keep administrative expenses extremely low so that virtually every dollar taken in goes directly to the care of the animals. Our group remains interested in and committed to the welfare of the dog beyond the adoption process.

Finally, we strive to work with area shelters and other rescue and humane organizations to develop a network of supporters and volunteers in order to create a better world for homeless pets.
