Rosa comes to All Paws On Deck from the Humane Society of St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands. She once knew what it meant to be cherished. When her person passed away, Rosa's world changed and she found herself in someone else's care, and then, sadly, in the path of someone with cruel intentions. We know that Rosa suffered abuse, including a machete injury to her head, both things no dog should ever have to experience. Because of her history, Rosa will need time to decompress in a new environment and would thrive with a family who understands what she's been through and and is patient enough to let her open up at her own pace. Being picked up can feel overwhelming for her, so she prefers that you to decide when she's ready to climb into your lap - and when she does, it's incredibly special. Despite everything she's been through, her heart has stayed open. She still leans into kindness, still believes in people. She may greet new situations with a bit of hesitation, but Rosa's soulful eyes tell the real story: a heart full of love, gentleness, and sincerity.
