My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Dottie’s story is a heartbreaking one, but it finally has a safe, hopeful ending.

Dottie is estimated to be around nine years old according to our vet, and sadly, she has been abandoned more times than any cat ever should be. Her story begins in Big Bear, where a kind couple staying at a rental home heard faint meowing late one night. The cries were coming from underneath the house. They unscrewed the vent and, after nearly an hour of patiently coaxing, Dottie finally emerged.

She was incredibly loving and vocal right away, but clearly in rough shape, with a noticeable mass on her neck. The couple spent the entire weekend bonding with her and posted a plea on Facebook to try to help her.

That’s when they learned something devastating, just weeks earlier, Dottie had already been rescued by a woman named Nicole. Another woman had begged Nicole to be allowed to adopt her, took Dottie in, and then abandoned her again only a few streets away from the Big Bear house. When Nicole and the couple tried to reunite the "adopter" with Dottie, the adopter never responded, blocked phone numbers, and blocked Facebook messages entirely.

Abandoned. Again.

Despite everything she’s been through, Dottie remains gentle, affectionate, and trusting, which makes her story even harder to hear. But the good news? Her past ends here.

Dottie has since had surgery to remove the mass on her neck and is healing beautifully. Her foster mom describes her as relaxed, loving, and happy to finally feel safe.

Dottie has been let down by humans far too many times, but we promise her this: she will never be abandoned again.

Additional adoption info

Our adoption process is designed with the pet and the family in mind. We look to make the process as easy and efficient as possible for our adopters, while also preserving the key safeguards that ensure we place our kitties with loving homes they can be sure to stay with forever. Sometimes we may ask for a virtual home visit via video or FaceTime to gain more insight into what kind of kitty will best fit your lifestyle and environment.
