Meet the Pet
This helps Poodle and Pooch Rescue with pet care costs.
AJ speaking, ready for my closeup. My name means “unconquered” and I like to think it fits me in a gentle sort of way. I’m a 10 year old, 6 lb little Shorkie (Shih Tzu/Yorkie blend) with a big heart, happiest when I’m trotting beside my people, soaking up attention or curling into a warm spot for a nap. I don’t need much to feel content; just a soft bed, a comfy outfit and someone who enjoys my enthusiastic wiggle when I say hello.
Favorite things: AJ is most content when he’s close to his people, whether he’s curled up in the people bed, resting in his own bed or quietly wandering the house. Walks are his greatest joy and he perks up the moment he hears the word. While toys don’t interest him much, he loves wearing clothes, enjoys a warm bath and greets friends with his signature fullbody wiggle.
Training and manners: AJ has a naturally polite, steady way about him. He walks beautifully on a leash, settles easily and moves through the home with mellow confidence. He’s clever and observant, adjusting smoothly to new routines. He can be left alone for several hours and has full access to the house during that time.
Health and care: AJ is microchipped, neutered and up to date on all shots. He takes standard monthly heartworm and flea/tick preventatives and needs grooming every couple of months. With only a few teeth remaining he prefers soft food that’s gentle on his mouth. His vision is slowly fading but he adapts with resilience and curiosity.
Other animals: AJ has experience with dogs of all sizes and gets along well with them. He hasn’t been tested with cats, though his foster believes he would likely coexist peacefully.
Children: This little guy is comfortable with children of all ages and enjoys their company when interactions are kind and gentle.
Ideal home: AJ would be happy in an apartment, condo or townhome, especially one with few or no stairs to help him feel secure. He’s independent enough to relax when left alone for a bit, yet social enough to appreciate a home where he gets plenty of companionship. A family that enjoys leisurely walks, cozy evenings and a pup who looks adorable in little outfits would be a wonderful match.
Overall: AJ is an affectionate, bright, adaptable sweetheart who asks for very little and gives so much in return. Anyone seeking a softsouled, easygoing friend will find something truly special in him.
Are you the one for sweet AJ? Then visit our website at www.PoodleandPoochRescue.org where you will find the application to adopt. You’ll be put in contact with the foster family for more information if it’s a potential match. His adoption donation is $250.
