Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Mazzie — Your Loyal Little Shadow and Professional Couch Companion
Please read the bio in full for answers to common questions. If you have a question not covered here, please email info@seniordoghaven.org. If interested in adopting, please complete an adoption application at https://seniordoghaven.org/adoption-process/. Because all of our dogs live in foster homes, meet-and-greets are scheduled only after a completed application is received. Adoptions must be within a reasonable distance of Wilmington, DE so our volunteers can conduct an in-person home visit.
Mazzie is an 8-year-old, 14-pound terrier mix whose greatest joy in life is simply being close to his person. This laid-back little guy came to us from a shelter and has proven to be a calm, affectionate companion who would love nothing more than a quiet home and a cozy spot beside you on the couch.
Mazzie is a true couch potato with a gentle personality. He enjoys lap time, walks nicely on a leash, and gets along well with dogs, cats, and kids. He rarely barks though he may let out a soft little “where did you go?” bark if he loses sight of his favorite human. He is happiest in a home where someone is around often, as he truly thrives on companionship.
He is still polishing up his housebreaking skills and currently uses a belly band while continuing to improve. Mazzie sleeps comfortably in a dog bed and does not require a yard; in fact, apartment or townhouse living could suit him just fine. He can manage a few stairs but would do best in a home without long flights.
Mazzie does have a grade 3 heart murmur and receives daily medication (a small heart pill twice a day) along with eye drops. He has already had an echocardiogram, neuter, and dental cleaning, and he’s feeling great. He eats regular Purina One food and is very food-motivated, which makes bonding with him easy.
His ideal home would be with someone who wants a devoted little shadow to share their days. Mazzie doesn’t ask for much: a soft bed, a gentle routine, and a human to love.
If you’re looking for a loyal, low-key companion who will happily keep you company through quiet days and cozy evenings, Mazzie might be your perfect match.

The goal of Senior Dog Haven & Hospice is to find the best home possible for our senior dogs. To assist us in this endeavor, SDH&H requires a fully completed application, references, and a visit to your home by one of our trained volunteers. For this reason we only process applications within a reasonable commute from the dog's foster home.
Our adoption fee is $200, however we offer a discounted rate of $150 for senior adopters over the age of 65.

More about this rescue
We are a small, dedicated group of fosters and volunteers. We strive to improve the lives of senior dogs who find themselves without a family to care for them anymore. We do not have a facility. Our dogs live in our homes as members of our families. We provide care, comfort, companionship and, most of all, unconditional love. We have worked in senior rescue for years, and see the continuing and growing need to get them out of shelters where they are often euthanized because of their age and/or medical reasons, or from owners that find themselves in crisis and no longer able to care for their companions (nursing home, illness, abusive situations, etc).
Senior Dog Haven and Hospice is a registered 501(c)3. All donations to our rescue are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.
