My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

Fanta may be missing a lot of body parts (a leg, a tail, an ear), but she is the absolute SWEETEST lovable lap cat you'll ever meet! She is only 2 years old, but she's had a rough time up until now! We don't know a whole lot about her back story, but we were told that her family threw her outside and then moved and left her behind. A neighbor who witnessed this reached out to ask if we could take her in, and of course we said yes. That's a harsh story for any cat, but even more so for Fanta who only has 3 legs and has trouble getting around. We don't know how she lost her leg, her tail, and her ear, but our vet said they were definitely injuries, she was not born like this. She was outside in this freezing cold, fending for herself. Now she is in a loving foster home where she has plenty of cozy cat beds (including a heated cat bed which she loves!) She LOVES people and wants nothing more than to snuggle up on your lap and be pet. She likes being carried around and even enjoys belly rubs! She rolls over as soon as she sees you. She kind of scoots/hops around and cannot jump, but she is perfect with using her litter box. Stairs might be difficult for her, but she'd be more than happy to be carried up and down them. She is scared of other animals (the vet thinks that at least her ear injury was most likely caused by another cat), she really can't defend herself or run away, so we think she'd be happiest as an only pet where she can get all the love and attention! She loves the children at her foster home (and all their friends who come over to visit her and give her lots of love). We are always amazed by animals like Fanta, who were so wronged by humans and yet remain so joyful, affectionate and friendly. Her luck has definitely turned around and she is excited to embark in this new chapter! She is an amazing cat and will make a wonderful addition to your home!

This cat is spayed, microchipped, up to date on distemper and rabies vaccinations, dewormings, tested negative for FIV/Felv, is on flea/tick preventative and ear mite preventative.

If you are interested in adopting this cat, please submit a 'Cat Adoption Application'   at   www.DelawarePetRescue.org/forms
This website is updated daily.  If the animal you are interested in adopting is listed as 'available for adoption', that means the animal is still in DPR's care.

*Please note - we do not do in-person meet and greets. Potential adopters can speak to the cats foster mom on the phone or do a meeting on Zoom or Facetime if desired to virtually meet the cat. You can pick your kitty up 'curb side'. Cats can be returned with a full refund for up to one week. *

DPR cats receive the following medical care prior to adoption:

Initial vet visit
Spay or neuter (if cat is 6 months or older)
Rabies vaccination (if cat is 6 months or older)
Distemper vaccination
SNAP testing for FIV, Leukemia and heart worm
Broad spectrum dewormers
Monthly flea/tick preventative
Ear mite preventative
The above is standard for ALL cats in our care. But many cats we rescue also require some additional TLC prior to adoption, such as antibiotics, eye ointments, wound care, fungal treatment, x-rays, or various surgeries.  We are an all-volunteer 501(c)3 charity. The adoption fee helps to offset our standard and non-standard vet bills.

More about this rescue

Visit our site at www.DelawarePuppyRescue.org if you are interested in one of our pets.

DPR was established in 2004 as a 501(c) non profit organize and an all volunteer rescue organization. We are not a shelter. We rescue both cats and dogs. We care for these pets in our foster homes until proper and stable homes are found through a multi-step adoption process. Our ultimate goal is to match families with our pets so that they live out their lives in loving, educated, safe homes for the remainder of their lives. Our additional goals in rescue are to educate the public in the importance of spaying/neutering and exposing the truth behind pet store puppys and the horrors of puppy mills.
