My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hank is an almost one year old mix of Dachshund, Lab, and Corgi who came to BENCHS when his owner needed to move. He has been a loved, well cared for dog and is now looking for a home where he can continue to thrive.

Hank is fully potty trained and sleeps in bed with his person at night. He is extremely people oriented and happiest when he knows exactly what his humans are up to. If you are looking for a loyal shadow who wants to be by your side all day, Hank is your guy.

He is a vocal dog and is very quick to tell you his thoughts, whether he is excited, curious, or ready for attention. His expressive personality is part of his charm, and he will do best with adopters who appreciate a talkative dog and are willing to continue working on positive, consistent training.

Hank is curious and friendly with new people and does well with other dogs, especially with slow, thoughtful introductions. He has spent time around another dog in the family and enjoys canine companionship. He has never been around cats, so a cat free home would be best unless adopters are experienced and committed to careful introductions.

He has lots of energy and loves walks and outdoor time. In his previous home, he was used to being let out off leash and returning on his own, so transitioning to leash walks and apartment living will take some patience and consistency. Hank is crate trained, has a positive association with his crate, and does well crated when his person is away.

Hank would love a home with lots of attention, daily walks, and a family that enjoys an affectionate, engaged dog. He eats twice a day and is currently fed one cup per meal.

If you are ready for a devoted companion who always has something to say and wants to be part of everything you do, Hank would love to meet you

More about this shelter

BENCHS was established in 1969 in Mankato, MN.
We serve Southern MN to help with owner surrenders, stray and unclaimed animals at local impounds.
BENCHS also offers a Food Share Program to help families keep their pets in their homes if they are going through a temporary hardship. As long as we have available donated food, we can have these families come in 2x a month. We may require animals be on a plan to be spay/neutered to receive this help.
