My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Introducing: Heartbreaker (Honey)

Aptly named, Heartbreaker but lovingly called Honey by her foster parents - this pup is truly sweeter than Honey  and will steal your heart with her adorable little smirk, her deep brown eyes, and her soft, big ears!

Honey is an 8 month old terrier mix, heavy emphasis on the mix  Initially, Honey and her siblings were very shy when they entered our home - a new space. After a warm bath and a big dinner, they slowly started to put their guard down. Prior to El Paso County Canine Rescue, these babies had lived their lives tied up on a chain outside. That is the only world they knew! With soft, tender hearts, they were very fearful - but they had each other

After the first night of slowly establishing a sense of safety inside our home, Honey truly started to blossom and show off her gentle, loving personality. Honey loves to play with her big foster brother, Jasper. Even though he’s twice her size, she isn’t afraid to wrestle with him and play chase with him around the backyard. Honey is curious about the kitties that live in her foster home with her, but naturally gives them space and respect.

Honey has been sleeping in her kennel without issue and excitedly greets everyone she missed so much overnight in the morning with one million kisses. Honey is a big time snuggle bug and would love nothing more than to curl up next to you in bed or on the couch for a cuddle!

Even though nobody really explained this whole potty training thing to Honey before, she was the quickest to learn and has only had one accident in the past two days! Huge progress!  Honey is truly a big lover and wants nothing more than to find her forever home so she can keep loving and happy smirking with you forever and ever.

Side note: when a new and very nice human came to Honey’s foster home to meet her and her siblings, Honey was very dysregulated and upset. Her foundational sense of safety is still new and growing with each day  - a new face in her space felt like danger to that budding sense of safety. She barked and barked and acted as tough as she could while still being so tiny and cute!

We are hopeful that at the adoption event on Saturday she will be able to let her personality shine in a more neutral setting. Honey warms up quickly and loves deeply so she is more than worth it!

More about this rescue

We are a 501(c)(3) not for profit dog rescue based in Colorado Springs, CO. Our goal is to rescue dogs from high kill shelters in other states and get them adopted into forever homes all along the Front Range and Pikes Peak Region. We are brand new, established in April 2019, and we are an all volunteer organization. We are always in need of donations, either money, much needed dog items like dog beds, kennels, leashes, etc, and loving foster homes. If you can't provide any of these things, we are always in need of people that can help out at events and transport when the dogs come in. We look forward to hearing from you!!
