Cheeto is a big-hearted, big-smiling red heeler mix with a goofy streak a mile wide. Originally from Texas, where he was found as a stray, this handsome guy has spent the past five years being a loyal, loving friend. His favorite things? Chasing his big red Jolly Ball, cuddling on the couch for a good movie, exploring hiking trails, and playing along the beach (he’ll splash, but swimming isn’t his thing). He’s crate trained, polite in new spaces, and listens well at home. Cheeto is looking for a special home that understands his needs. He can be dog reactive, so no dog parks for this guy, and he prefers not to meet new people while on a leash. His recall isn’t perfect, so a secure yard is ideal. He’ll thrive as the only pet in a calm, adult home—no kids or cats—where he can be the center of attention.
With the people he loves, Cheeto is all in—loyal, affectionate, and eager to share his goofy charm. Letting him go is heartbreaking, but it’s the best choice for his future. We’d love for him to stay on the island, but finding the perfect match is what matters most.

Our shelter is located on Orcas Island in Washington State. Our adoption policy is to always try to find a suitable home for a pet here on island before looking else where. If a suitable owner is not found, we then widen our search to those in San Juan County and outlying areas. If you are looking to adopt from outside of the U.S., please be aware that this would be highly unlikely and only under special circumstances that we would choose to do so.
