My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Merlin is Sponsored by Mark Colby & Romona Youngquist

Meet Merlin

Merlin is a distinguished little gentleman, believed to be around 10 years young, with the soulful eyes and quiet wisdom of a dog who has seen a thing or two. This poodle–Bichon Frise mix may be small in size, but his presence is unmistakably magical.

Like any seasoned wizard, Merlin’s senses aren’t what they used to be—he has some vision and hearing impairment—but he navigates the world just fine at his own gentle pace. What he lacks in sight and sound, he more than makes up for in sweetness, calm companionship, and a deep appreciation for the simple pleasures in life: soft beds, kind voices, and peaceful surroundings.

Merlin would thrive in a quiet, adult-only home where he can spend his golden years exactly as he deserves—wrapped in comfort, stability, and love. He’s not looking for adventure or chaos; he’s looking for a devoted companion who understands that the best magic is found in still moments and steady hearts.

If you’re searching for a calm, affectionate friend to share quiet days and cozy evenings, Merlin is ready to retire his staff and settle into a life of well-earned rest and devotion.

If you are interested in meeting me, the shelter is open Tuesday through Saturday 11am – 5pm, Sunday 11am-4pm (Winter Hours).

If you are interested in a pet that is available in our shelter, you will need to submit an adoption application to be considered.
We are receiving multiple applications on every pet. If we do not call you to do an adoption, please do not consider it a rejection. We simply have a lot of applications coming in and very limited staff.
Adoption Applications do not place holds on pets, nor do we do pre-adoptions.
Rather than doing first-come-first-serve adoptions, Newberg Animal Shelter considers all applications and chooses the home that is the best fit for that particular pet. We want the adoptions to be happy and successful for the family and the pets.
Our adoption fees include spay/neuter, and at least their first set of vaccines, and microchip.
