My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Butter Bean, or BB, is a chipper, young, light blonde tabby who appeared at someone's stoop in Bay Ridge a couple of months previous to his rescue, where he was being fed by a local good samaritan. It was clear to the rescuer that BB was a friendly, social guy and was vulnerable on the busy avenue as he had a habit of coming out to greet the passersby waiting for the bus by rubbing against their legs. Since he's been in foster he has proven to be affectionate and good natured. At home he looks for a lot of attention and loves to come sit on your lap and soak up as much love and pets as you can give.

Just about a year old, BB still has tons of kitten energy and will greet you at the door when you arrive and excitedly follow you around chatting happily about his day. Eventually he does settle down, once he feels he has had his fill, but his humans should be prepared to routinely shower him with the love he clearly deserves. He does get insecure around feeding time, likely from his time on the street and the uncertainty about where his next meal is coming from, but that should settle in time as he comes to feel he has found a loving home where he will be cared for and fed consistently.

You may notice the cloudiness in his right eye (though he can see out of it, likely the result of an injury after he was abandoned. He does OK with other cats, he can take them or leave them, but can be bullying with the shyer ones, so it's best, likely, he be paired with another alpha cat who isn't going to be easily intimidated by his rough housing at times. He can also go as a single, as the main focus of his attention and devotion, clearly, are his human keepers. An absolute love bug, looking to adore and be adored.

BB is FIV and FeLV negative, neutered, and up to date on shots. Email adopt@kittykind.org to apply!

Additional adoption info

All cats and kittens are vaccinated and tested for FELV (feline leukemia) and FIV (feline immunodeficiency virus), and if old enough, are neutered or spayed.
We will ask you some questions about your home and we will be glad to answer any questions you may have. Adopting a pet is a long-term commitment. We ask you to sign the KittyKind Adoption Agreement.
We will always take a cat back FOR ANY REASON. We will also work with you to place her in another good home if (after a period of adjustment) the adoption doesn't work out.
We do ask for a $125 adoption fee to help cover some of our food and veterinary expenses. For certain purebred cats (Siamese, Persian, Maine Coon, etc.), we request a $150 - $300 adoption fee.

More about this rescue

KittyKind is a New York City not-for-profit, no-kill, all-volunteer cat rescue and adoption group. All of us at KittyKind have opened our hearts and homes — and emptied our pockets — to save thousands of cats from neglect or abuse. Every cat we rescue is given food, shelter, medical care, a safe place to lay his or her head and most importantly of all, a reason to purr. We do not believe in rescuing a cat or kitten only to euthanize it if it has a broken leg or needs extended nursing care. We never give up if there is a chance of saving them. We take responsibility for each and every life we save and if a cat or kitten is unadoptable, they have a home with us for life.
We believe that animals are not property to be discarded, disposed of, or killed just for the crime of being homeless or unwanted. We believe that people should be friends, caretakers and protectors of animals. We believe that we must take responsibility for the life of every animal we rescue who through no fault of their own, is abandoned, sick, disabled, old or unable to care for themselves. We are dedicated to relieving their suffering, providing food, shelter, medical care and comfort until we can place them in a safe and loving home.
