🤍Meet Rio, a “Sato dog” from Puerto Rico! A “Sato dog” refers to the mixed breed, stray dogs on the island. (Majority are small-medium size but some can be larger). Island dogs are smart, loyal, highly trainable, and thrive on routines and consistency. They have wonderful demeanors, make devoted companions, adjust well to their environments, and are a perfect mix of energetic and affectionate. There is no love like the love of an island dog.
Rio was found/rescued late December by an Airbnb on the beach in Las Picuas, PR. He suffered terrible mange, was in horrible shape, and overall defeated. He has powered through with an incredible recovery and quickly showed his appreciation and bright spirit. Rio is happy, very playful, eager to learn, and loves people. He holds a sweet soul with a wonderful disposition and an outgoing personality. Rio has been around various dogs and interacts with ease and loves to play. He has not “yet” had direct engagements with kids or cats and we see no issues-with proper introduction/respect. When Rio arrives to MD, he will share his foster home with two dogs, (one being a Sato), one cat, two kids (ages 6 and 7), and exposure to chickens and goats. He will continue to learn all the ropes, day/night time routines, and be set up for success. Rio will continue to/need continued work on puppy-training concepts including: Basic leash training, potty, crate, socialization, etc. This sweet boy will make an amazing companion and we are excited to see his confidence continue to thrive. (Mom and Dad are unknown). Stay tuned! 😊

We offer home visits if the pet is in foster care near the potential adopter. Some of our animals are still in Puerto Rico and can be flown stateside to potential adopters.

Paradise Rescue was established to address the pressing issue of stray animals in Puerto Rico, particularly in the northeast region. Recognizing that rescue efforts are more effective with a support network, we founded this organization to share our experiences and engage individuals interested in contributing through donations, fostering, or adoption. Over the years, we've accumulated an impressive portfolio of rescue success stories and assembled a dedicated team committed to improving the lives of our beloved "satos."
