My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello! My name Echo!

I`m a beautiful husky looking for some humans who will enjoy my quirky personality! I can take a few minutes and lots of sniffs to warm up to new people. I prefer when strangers ignore me, or even better, toss tasty treats my way. I came into GHS with a very thick and matted undercoat. After a pro groom where a 10-gallon-bin-worth of fur was removed, I`m feeling SO much better and enjoying pets and touching so much more! I hope my new family will keep my coat feeling good with regular brushing. True to my breed, I am very chatty and I do like to make silly husky noises, so I hope you like singing!

MY IDEAL HOME INVOLVES…
CHILDREN: Teenager may be ok. No young children given I’m an older guy looking for a retirement home and don’t have much experience with kids.
OTHER DOGS: Yes, I have lived with dogs before and could do well with a respectful dog who’s not too exuberant.
CATS: Yes, I have lived with cats before but a slow introduction and cats experienced living with dogs is still recommended.
FIRST-TIME DOG OWNERS: I would likely do best with someone that has previous dog, or even better, husky, experience.
FENCED-IN YARD: Not necessarily.
HOUSING ENVIRONMENT: No apartment buildings as I may bark if other dogs are too close.
SOMEONE HOME MOST OF THE DAY: Not necessarily.

SOME OTHER THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT ME…
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Low-medium.
HOUSE-TRAINED: Yes.

More about this shelter

For 125 years, the Guelph Humane Society has been dedicated to protecting and caring for the many animals with whom we share our community and our lives, and to fostering the important bonds with animals that enrich us as individuals, families and communities. Founded in 1893, the Guelph Humane Society provides care and shelter for more than 3,000 homeless, stray, injured, and abused animals each year throughout Guelph and Wellington County.

Our programs are delivered by an enthusiastic team of staff with many years of experience in animal care and welfare. In addition to paid staff, we are lucky to have over 400 active volunteers who provide thousands of hours of service each year and generously share their skills and ideas.

The Guelph Humane Society has a strong working relationship with local, provincial, and national animal welfare organizations; local school boards; the City of Guelph; Township of Centre Wellington; Township of Guelph-Eramosa; local veterinarians; the Ontario Veterinary College Health Sciences Centre at the University of Guelph; and Guelph Police Services and the Provincial Crown Attorney’s Office. We are an affiliate society of the Ontario SPCA, and proud member of the Canadian Federation of Humane Societies (CFHS).

Our organization is guided by a Board of Directors made up of volunteers with a wide range of skills and business experience. The Board also convenes several ad hoc committees, which work to address specific issues. Day-to-day operations of the shelter are managed by the Executive Director and senior staff with the Board’s general guidance.

We are a registered charitable, non-profit organization that does not receive government funding. As such, we depend on your donations and private funding to support our important work. The Guelph Humane Society charitable registration number is 119236305RR0001.
