My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This 2-year-old Beagle beauty may be petite right now at 15 pounds, but she’s working her way toward her healthy goal weight of 25–30 pounds. With her short brown-and-white coat, expressive eyes, and constantly wagging tail, Ginger is as adorable as she is affectionate.

Ginger is a true cuddle-bug who loves being with her people. She packs plenty of energy into her small frame, especially after naps, when she gets the cutest little zoomies! Watching her try to sprint across hardwood floors, little legs moving at lightning speed with tiny hops in between, is guaranteed to make you smile. Once she’s gotten her playtime in, she’s more than happy to curl up for belly rubs or nap in a cozy dog bed (or anywhere comfy she can find).

She’s still working on house-training and improving every day, though she may have the occasional accident. Ginger will rest calmly in her crate if you’re nearby, but she does struggle with separation anxiety and becomes vocal if left alone, especially when crated. Because of this, she would thrive in a home where someone is around most of the time and can continue helping her build confidence. She can also be a little timid in new situations or with new people at first, likely due to spending extended periods crated in her past, but with patience and love she warms up quickly and lets her bright, loving personality shine.

She loves sniffing everything (true to her Beagle nature!), going on walks, chewing her favorite penguin toy, getting pets and belly rubs, and most of all, being wherever her people are. Don’t expect to move from room to room without your loyal little shadow following along.

With medium energy, multiple short walks a day suit her well, and her stamina may increase as she reaches her healthy weight. She does not require a fenced yard but will need a patient, loving home committed to helping her feel secure.
If you’re looking for a sweet, devoted companion who will shower you with affection and always want to be by your side, Ginger is ready to fill your home with love (and a few joyful zoomies).

The adoption fee is $450. Adoption fee includes spay/neuter, heartworm/Lyme test, all age-appropriate vaccinations (distemper, rabies, and Bordetella), heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, and microchip implant (including registration). Adoption fees INCLUDE a mandatory sales tax of 7.525%. Age and breed are based on veterinarian and intake professional’s recommendation and not guaranteed as a rescue animal’s history is often unknown. Due to post-adoption services provided, we prefer to adopt within a 150-mile radius of the Twin Cities. However, we will consider up to 250 miles if the foster agrees to travel requirements and staff approval.

Additional adoption info

Pet Haven is a foster-based rescue. Our animals live with foster families until they are placed in permanent homes and their foster families get to know the dogs and cats learning important information about the animals. For example, the foster family will know if the dog or cat is good with other animals or children, and will have a good idea of what kind of training, attention, and special needs the pet may require. This makes our foster families great resources for potential adopters!

More about this rescue

Our Mission
Pet Haven improves the lives of pets and the people who love them by rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming dogs and cats; reducing pet overpopulation by supporting spay and neuter efforts, and providing resources to people that help strengthen the human-animal bond.

Our Vision
A Minnesota where all pets live in safe, loving homes.

Our Values
Excellence in service and care; community; integrity; innovation; perseverance; compassion; a rewarding place to volunteer

How We Help
Spay/Neuter Initiative Program: Providing support to end pet overpopulation in Minnesota
Owner Surrender: Providing a safe haven for pet owners
Foster: Committed to finding forever homes for cats and dogs
Phoenix Fund for Special Needs: Providing veterinary care for animals in need of healing
What We Do
We help dogs and cats find homes with loving families through foster-based care. Every dog and cat lives with a foster family until they find their forever families. We provide all of their basic needs including proper food, veterinary care, behavior training, and supplies.

Through in-home fostering, we learn about each animal’s temperament, personality, likes/dislikes, and any medical needs. With this first-hand information, we can then find the right family for each dog and cat.

Our volunteers also educate the public on responsible companion animal care and represent respect for animals at all times. Whether we’re working with prospective new families, meeting people at public events, or socializing with friends and family, we encourage others to view and treat their pets as members of the family. We are their guardians, and they depend on us for companionship and care.

We spay/neuter prior to adoption.
We microchip all our Pet Haven Pets and remain as a secondary contact.
We make sure all pets are up to date on required vaccinations
We test for Heartworm and Lymes in all our dogs and are transparent in the results and treament
We test for FeLV/FIV and are transparent in the results. We believe that cats who test positive still deserve a chance at a quality home.
We do not euthanize animals unless they have untreatable health or behavioral conditions that deny them an acceptable quality of life or makes them a serious threat to people, other animals, or themselves.
How We Operate
We rely on adoption fees, tax-deductible donations, grants, and special events to keep our rescue operating. Our staff, Board of Directors, and volunteers have provided the passion and commitment to keep Pet Haven a safe haven for animals for almost 70 years.

We are committed to preventing pet homelessness through the SNIP Grant. Since 2005, we have granted more than $240,000 to organizations in Minnesota to support spay/neuter initiatives.
