My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Pnina (gray and white, 6 months) and Sirena (black and white, one year) are young ladies who promise to be incredible companions! While they take a little while to warm up to new environments, they are wonderfully sweet and cuddly once they do!

Sirena is the more cautious of the two, with adorable black-and-white patches that remind us of a little cow. Adorably petite, she likes to spend quiet afternoons napping under beds and couches. Once she gets comfortable, she loves to sit on a nap and receive chin scratches and it’s starting to show promise as a hunter. While she can get spooked by unexpected movements or loud sounds, she’s getting braver and more curious by the day.

Pnina is the bigger, more adventurous sister, with gray spots and big soulful eyes. She LOVES the wand toy and has already been showing Olympic potential in her jumps. Within days, she’ll be strutting around like she owns the place, softly chirping out her thoughts.

While a bit hissy when frightened, both girls have proved incredibly well-behaved and affectionate. They co-exist quite peacefully, though they are both more oriented toward humans than each other. Sirena is pretty food-motivated, and needs to be kept separated from Pnina during mealtimes, or she tends to sneak some of her sister’s food.

Once they adjust to a new space, they are both sweet as can be, mellow, tolerant, and would be great animals for a first-time cat owner!

More about this rescue

Our rescue group was formed in December 2007, but all our Board Members have had extensive experience rescuing and working with abandoned animals. We often work with other rescue organizations to find appropriate and safe foster and adoptive homes for our pet clients. We regularly go to areas with abandoned animals and collect them. The animals are taken to a licensed veterinarian examined, treated and spayed or neutered. Every effort is made to work with the animal and our foster and adoptive families to find a suitable forever home.

For those animals who are truly wild and feral, we release the animal in a safe and secure location after it has recovered from its medical treatment. We also work with certified wildlife rehabilitators to rescue injured and orphaned wildlife. Our organization is focused on improving the welfare of the abandoned animals in need of help in Brooklyn. In furthering that goal, our resources are focused on the animals.

Aside from a few minimal overhead costs such as our website and phone services, our entire budget is spent on animal care such as medical and food costs.
