My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Remmy is a big teddy bear that has a friendly, loving and tender nature toward everyone he's met...men, women, children, other dogs and cats too! Being a Husky mix, Remmy has lots of energy and needs a home with an active family that will take him for long on-leash walks and hikes on a regular basis. Also, a large, secure fenced in yard would be great, but is not required. Remmy would be very happy in a home that has another active, friendly dog(s) he can fool around with or a home where he has the opportunity to have play dates with other dogs. At the sanctuary, Remmy has lived peacefully with several cats. In fact, he is gentle to them even when they smack him! Remmy is very intelligent and thrives with mental stimulation...he enjoys nose work, reward-based training, food puzzles and stuffed Kongs. He would do great in a Canine Good Citizen class; he has the skills and intelligence to learn a lot of new things, but he is still working on some impulse control as he has very puppy-like tendencies in exciting social situations (jumping, barking, etc.) Remmy needs an experienced guardian because he has shown signs of significant anxiety when left alone and in certain situations, needs to be crated. Our sanctuary is helping him work through these separation fears and he is improving, but it is critical that he finds a home that has experience with separation anxiety and is willing to patiently and lovingly help Remmy work through his fears. Remmy came to our sanctuary from a dog control officer who found him as a stray and had suspicions that Remmy may have been intentionally abandoned, rather than simply being a "run away." While we will never know for sure, Remmy can be restless during vehicle rides. However, once he gets to the destinations (hiking trails, Tractor Supply, etc.) he has a wonderful time. He is much calmer on the ride back to the sanctuary than the ride away from the sanctuary. At any rate, he needs a home that can also patiently work through any vehicle anxiety he may experience. He may sound like a project dog, but he is the gentlest, most loving and most deserving dog we have ever known. This dog will love you unconditionally and forever, and we are determined to find him a home that cherishes him and has an environment he will thrive in. If you are interested in meeting Remmy, please reach out to Megan at: mahonemt@bonaventure.edu or (716)785-4705. Please note that our adoption application is very detailed and requires personal references, a veterinary reference and a home visit. Adopters must live in an approximate 100-mile radius of the sanctuary (Cuba, NY.) Remmy can't wait to meet the family of his dreams!

More about this rescue

We are a small but growing non-profit, 501(c)(3) dog rescue. We rescue homeless dogs and find them dedicated, loving well-matched homes. We are gradually transforming a pole barn into a cozy haven for homeless dogs that provides spacious, enriching rooms instead of kennels. In addition to rescue and adoption, one of our goals for the future is to provide a lifetime sanctuary for dogs who have a difficult time finding an adoptive home due to more complicated medical and/or behavioral issues. We love all animals but have the most knowledge about and personal experience with dogs.
