My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Hurricane!

Hurricane is a two year old female cat looking for an understanding human and calm cozy home to call her own. Unlike her namesake, Hurricane tends to be more reserved in nature and prefers to take her time adjusting to new people and places before letting her personality show full force. This sweet wallflower is looking for that purrfect person who will give her all the time and space she needs to adjust and who will let her approach on her own terms when she is ready.

Hurricane feels much more confident interacting with humans in the presence of feline friends who help her feel safe and comfortable in scary environments. Because she feels more comfortable, we are requiring that her forever home already has a resident cat living in it. We still recommend a slow introduction between Hurricane and her new cat companion(s), to ensure that she feels safe as she adjusts to their presence.

Looking to give a sweet but shy kitty the calm, understanding home she so desperately needs? Stop by the Humane Society of Summit County today and meet Hurricane!

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

All of our adoptable animals are up-to-date on all age appropriate vaccinations, spayed or neutered, de-wormed, de-flea and microchipped before adoptions are finalized. All dogs over six months of age receive a temperament assessment by our Certified Professional Dog Trainer to ensure appropriate placement. Also, many animals in our care receive basic obedience training to improve manners and increase adoptability.

We are currently doing adoptions by appointment only. Please contact us by phone at (234) 212-9843 or email at adoptions@summithumane.org, and an adoption counselor will return your message. They will review our adoption process, answer any questions, and tell you more about the animals currently available for adoption at our shelter and in our foster program. If we have a match for you and your family, an appointment will be scheduled to meet the animal.

Additional questions can be directed to our adoption team at (234) 212-9843.

More about this shelter

Since 1968, the Humane Society of Summit County (HSSC) has been the trusted caretaker and advocate for Summit County’s victims of animal abuse, neglect, and abandonment and stray animals suffering from illness and injury. We employ two full-time Humane Officers who respond to emergency calls, investigate animal cruelty, and, as warranted, prosecute offenders. We protect and care for our community’s abused, discarded, and forgotten animals. We strive every day to rehabilitate our rescued animals, find them great homes, and provide them with bright futures.
