Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Shiva & Kali - A Bonded Pair of Brindle Beauties Shiva and Kali are a pair of 6‑year‑old Plott Hounds who were surrendered to the shelter together. They've spent their entire lives side by side, and we're hoping to find a family willing to keep them together. We know that's a big ask, but these two are absolutely worth it.
About Shiva & Kali Age: 6 years
Breed: Plott Hounds
Weight: 40-60 lbs
Coat: Gorgeous brindle
Vaccines: Up to date
Temperament: Polite, well‑mannered, and gentle
Other Dogs: They do well with canine friends
Cats: Not yet tested, but we can do so for interested adopters
Shiva and Kali walk nicely on leash, have the sweetest floppy ears, and are already showing us how loving and well‑behaved they are. They arrived on 2/11, and while we're still getting to know them, one thing is clear-they were overwhelmed coming into the shelter and would love to settle into a home as soon as possible.
About the Plott Hound Breed Plott Hounds are a unique and uncommon breed to see in shelters. Here's what makes them special:
Origin: Developed in the 18th century by the Plott family in North Carolina; designated the state dog in 1989.
Appearance: Athletic, muscular, and known for their striking brindle coats.
Temperament: Intelligent, courageous, loyal, and affectionate with their families.
Energy Level: They thrive with active owners who can keep them mentally and physically engaged.
Plott Hounds are known for their strength and hunting ability, but they're equally devoted companions who bond deeply with their people. Primary Color: Brindle Weight: 61 Age: 5yrs 2mths 2wks

There is a contract and all potential adopters meet with adoption counselor to talk about application and make sure pet is good fit with the person and family. A "meet and greet" is required with all family members and the pet prior to finalizing the adoption application. If someone is adopting a dog and has another dog at home, we also require a "meet and greet" for the dogs as well. All animals in the home must be up to date on vaccinations prior to new pet going home. We do not adopt to people who will keep the pet outside exclusively. We may do a home visit either pre or post-adoption. Animals adopted from us are not be sold or given to another person. We verify all information on the adoption application and may deny an application with any false information on it. More about this shelter
The Humane Society of Wicomico County was started in 1968 by a group of people who wanted to help improve the lives of animals. We have come a long way in our 40+ years! We have a staff dedicated to making sure the animals that come to our doors are loved and protected as they wait for their forever home. Not only are our animals vaccinated, wormed and given flea preventative, we can treat animals that come to us with mange, ringworm, heartworm and pay for animals to be seen by an outside vet should there be a need. We have an on-site spay/neuter clinic that not only is used for our animals but we also offer low cost spay/neuter for animals of the public. We provide emergency boarding for victims of domestic abuse, fire, and medical emergencies. We also have the capability to set up an off-site emergency shelter for people evacuated from their homes. In addition, we have an education program to help teach kids about being a responsible pet guardian. We work with a wide range of rescue groups and our animals have been transported from our mid-Atlantic area throughout the North Eastern United States. Our shelter is an open admission shelter and we will take in approximately 3500 animals this year. We do what we do because of our love for animals and our desire to make a difference in their lives every single day.
