Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Hi there, I'm Axel, and I am a 3.5 year old German Shepherd who is looking for just the right home. I am a sweet, playful boy when you get to know me. I am a loyal dog who will be sure to watch over your home and your family as I am true to my breed. I would love to have a job protecting my family. While I do not love strangers, give me some time and go slow and I will become your best friend. Let me show you my goofy side as I am a clinger and I will lay all over you to give you kisses and I love to swing my big ol' feet at you as well when I play. I love to play ball and tug and will give you lots of love and laughs.
A home with previous breed experience is a plus but not mandatory but definitely dog experience will be a must.
If you remember me, I was adopted from the shelter in early 2025, but unfortunately my owner was losing their home and could not keep me. They were devastated to have to return me to the shelter environment because I am such a good dog, but there was nothing they could do. In that home, I was used for protection purposes and that is what I am used to. I did well with the kids in the home, other dogs that frequently visited and I even lived peacefully with a house cat! I bond very close with my people and I am a sweet, loving boy that is a big baby and cuddlebug. I am crate trained and had no problems using my crate as my safe place.Give the shelter a call at (574) 267-3008 or email them at info@awlwarsaw.com if you have any questions about me! If not, stop by the shelter at 1048 S 325 E in Pierceton, IN 46562 to look at me! No appointments necessary!

Additional adoption info
Out of county adopters are also welcomed. If needed, spay and neuter vouchers is given and included in adoption price.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
The procedure for adopting one of our animals is as follows:
You walk in, either by appointment or as a walk-in, and our adoption tech will take you to meet the pets. If any of the animals interest you, you can take them out of their cages and spend time with them in a cuddle room or take a walk outside with them (for dogs). Our staff will then answer any questions you may have, explain our trial adoption process to you (explained below) and help you decide if this pet is the perfect fit for your family!
If you are adopting a dog and there is another dog in your home, we ask you to come back for an assisted meet and greet with your current pet!
You then sign our contract and staff will approve of it before asking for your ID and method of payment. Once we have all of the information we need, you can take your pet home! It's that easy!
We try to make the adoption process simple and enjoyable for you and your new pet. Please come in for a visit and give us a try!
Trial Adoption: We highly recommend our trial adoption program where you pay for the pet up front (there is no extra fee for the trial) and then take it home for about 5-7 days (we are flexible with this) to see how it fits in with your lifestyle and other pets in the home. If everything works out, great, just call us and let us know you want to finalize and that is when you receive the microchip number and medical papers as well as a goody bag! If it doesn't work out, you bring the pet back and you will receive a full refund.
Nursery Nanny Program: We also offer a nursery nanny program for our kittens! If you find one you like, you can take it home the same day even if it is not spayed/neutered yet. We ask that you bring it back for the kitten's spay/neuter date and if it needs to return for any vaccinations! We don't finalize the adoption until the kitten has been spayed/neutered and caught up on vaccines.
ADOPTION FEES: $180 for puppies under 9 months, $150 for dogs up to 5 years, $75 for senior dogs, $105 for kittens under 9 months, $95 for adult cats up to 5 years and $65 for senior cats.
Fees include: spay/neuter, microchip & registration, initial vaccines for the year, including the rabies vaccine, and flea & tick and heartworm preventatives
