These two special sisters are 12 weeks old, bonded and looking for a home together.
Bluey tested positive for Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV) and a follow-up test confirmed that her condition is actually regressive!
What does that mean? • A regressive infection means Bluey’s immune system has controlled the virus • Many cats with regressive FeLV never develop illness related to FeLV • These cats can live normal or near-normal lifespans • In long-term studies, cats with regressive FeLV were still living 8+ years later
Bingo tested negative for FeLV. However, because she and Bluey are littermates and have been together since birth, we are being cautious and treating Bingo as if she may also have a regressive infection that didn’t show up on her initial test.
What FeLV Means for Their Future • FeLV is only contagious to other cats (not people, dogs, or other pets) • Bluey and Bingo should live indoors only • They should be the only cats in the home, or live with other FeLV-positive cats • Routine veterinary care and a low-stress home are especially important
While some FeLV-positive cats can develop health problems later in life, cats with regressive infections often live long, happy lives, especially when adopted young and cared for proactively.
Right now, shelter life is overwhelming for these girls. They are scared and shy here, but when held, they relax, purr and seek comfort. With patience, love, and a quiet home, we truly believe Bluey and Bingo will blossom into wonderful companions.
They are a bonded pair who find security in each other and are hoping to find a family who will give them the safe, loving home they deserve. If that’s you, sign up to adopt them at lenhumanesoc.org!
*Because Bluey and Bingo are a package deal, you can adopt them both for the price of one!
