My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

  • 3 years old (estimated)
  • Spayed female
  • No known experience with cats, dogs, or children

Dove has been through a lot. She was left behind in an apartment when her owner moved, and while we are so grateful she was found and brought to safety, she is still trying to make sense of everything. Right now she spends much of her time curled up in her cozy bed where she feels secure, quietly watching the world around her.

Underneath that uncertainty is an incredibly sweet, gentle girl with the softest fur. When you sit with her and offer kind words and gentle pets, she simply melts into your hands. She is an absolute baby doll who even cuddles with her cat toys for comfort. She loves when you talk to her and will soak up the attention, and while she doesn't seem to mind being held and carried, what she truly adores is calm, reassuring affection.

Dove would likely thrive in a quieter home where she can settle in at her own pace and feel safe again. In return for patience and love, she will blossom into a devoted, loyal companion who treasures her people with her whole heart.

More about this shelter

The HSJC is located in Jefferson, Wisconsin and is a small, privately run non-profit shelter that has been in operation since 1922. We recently celebrated our 90th year of caring for dogs, cats, birds and other small animals in need. Each year, close to 1,000 pets find sanctuary at our shelter. We put forth great effort to reunite owners with lost pets and to find good new homes for those who need a second chance. We do not impose a time limit on how long a healthy, adoptable animal may stay with us as they wait to be adopted.
