My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

***Medical foster***

Meet Buckeye

Buckeye is an 8-year-old, 88-pound long-haired German Shepherd with soulful eyes and the quiet presence of a dog who has seen a lot in his life. Theres no doubt that in his prime he was absolutely breathtaking and truthfully, even now, you can still see it. Beneath the patchy coat and healing skin is a truly handsome boy. Buckeye arrived at Canine Collective in rough shape, and he is currently being treated for alopecia and working on restoring his once-glorious coat. Buckeye was surrendered when his family fell on hard times. We believe he may not have received the care he deserved in recent years, but through it all, his gentle spirit has remained intact.

He is good with people and appreciates calm, reassuring companionship. He has previously lived with other dogs, but at this stage in life would do best as the only dog in the home where he can soak up all the attention and stability he deserves. Right now, Buckeye is looking for a medical foster home where he can continue his treatment and recover in comfort. Our rescue will support his medical care he simply needs a patient, loving home to help him heal. Senior shepherds are something special. They are loyal, wise, and deeply bonded to their people. Buckeye doesnt need chaos or excitement just kindness, routine, and someone willing to give him the second chapter he has earned.

If youve ever loved a shepherd, you know they give you their whole heart. Buckeye is ready to give his. Apply as a foster at www.caninecollective.org.

Our adoption process takes several steps and cannot be completed in one day. All of our volunteers work full time and assist the rescue in their spare time. Please allow 2-3 business days for a response.

* Applicants must be willing to make a ten plus year commitment to their new family member.

* Applicants must commit to daily exercise, walks, trips to the dog park or play in the back yard. A well exercised dog is a happy well behaved dog!

* Applicants living in a rental property must provide proof of pet policy from landlord.

* Applicants must provide a veterinarian reference and if there are existing dogs in the household. All pets must be spayed/neutered and current on all shots and heartworm medication.

*Please allow at least a 7-14 day adjustment period for your new dog. Rescue dogs go thru a lot of changes and need a few days to get used to their new surroundings and adjust. Adopting a dog should be a serious commitment, so please be willing to work out the kinks. Our dogs aren't perfect but with proper training and guidance they make awesome, loving pets.

*Our adoption fees vary based on the age and medical needs of the dogs.
