My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This young male Border Collie mix arrived at the shelter feeling quite fearful, but with patience and gentle support, his soft and kind personality is beginning to shine through. He is a sensitive soul who is learning that the world can be a safe and positive place, and it’s been wonderful to see his confidence slowly grow.He would do best in a calm, experienced home that understands shy or fearful dogs and is committed to helping him build confidence at his own pace. Kind, consistent guidance will help him learn how to relax, explore, and eventually discover how to play and enjoy life. Fast movements and loud or sudden noises can still be unsettling for him, so a quieter environment will help him feel more secure.A fenced yard would be a big benefit, giving him a safe space to decompress, move freely, and continue gaining confidence without added pressure. To set him up for long-term success, private training or a structured group class may be required as part of his adoption plan. With the right home, patience, and positive reinforcement, this sweet boy has all the potential to blossom into a loyal and loving companion.

Size: Medium 20.8kg/ 46lbs
Children: Adult only home recommended
Dogs: May do best with dogs of similar size and playstyle
Cats: Not tested with cats, slow introductions recommended

Go meet their pets

The City of Calgary is once again adopting cats and dogs at the Animal Services Centre in addition to transferring adoptable pets to our partner agencies, to help animals find their furever homes faster.

Shelters and rescue agencies are currently at capacity with the overpopulation of homeless animals. The City reinstated its adoption program to assist with this crisis by making adoptable animals available by appointment. Once a pet is deemed adoptable, they are available either at the Animal Services Centre or one of our partner agencies: the Calgary Humane Society, or the Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society (AARCS).

Adoptions are available by appointment only by calling 311 or by visiting Animal Services. Appointment are available from 10:00am thru 5:30pm (this may change and is subject to availability) Monday through Saturday. Adoption cost is $169 + GST for cats and $225 + GST for dogs. Adoption fees include medical and dental care, vaccinations, microchip, City of Calgary licence, and spaying/neutering.

Anyone interested in adopting a pet is encouraged to check out the adoptable animals on Calgary.ca/pets and at the links below.

Hidden gems
We’re rolling out the red carpet for some very special stars—our Hidden Gems! These are the wonderful cats and dogs who’ve been with us for a little longer than most and while they’ve been patiently waiting, we think it’s time they got their moment to shine.

To help these lovable animals find their forever homes, we’re offering them at a special adoption price: $100 + GST

No matter what you are looking for, one of these hidden gems may be your new best friend. Keep an eye out for “hidden gem” on their profile below.
