My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Available for adoption in Texas: Collins!

At just one year old and about 60 pounds, Collins is the perfect blend of youthful energy and snuggles.

Collins firmly believes the best seat in the house is whichever one is closest to you. Preferably touching you. Just to be safe.

This beautiful girl with the biggest, most soulful eyes bonds deeply with her humans.

Once you’re in her circle, you’re in for life. She follows her foster like a devoted little shadow and is convinced that every task is better when done as a team.

Cooking dinner? Together. Folding laundry? Together. Sitting on the couch doing absolutely nothing? Especially together. In Collins’ world, personal space is more of a suggestion.

She can be shy when meeting new people and appreciates slow, gentle introductions. But once she feels safe, she melts. Truly melts. She’ll lean into you like she’s been yours forever. Collins takes her role as “loyal sidekick” very seriously. Batman had Robin. You’ll have Collins.

She is currently building confidence during life’s solo moments, like when her people leave the house. Because she bonds so deeply, being alone hasn’t always been her favorite thing. The good news? She’s making wonderful progress with structure, consistency, and medication support. We’re already seeing her grow braver.

She will need a patient, understanding home, committed to continuing that journey and cheering her on. Collins would thrive in a home where someone is around more often than not and where she has a confident canine sibling. Another dog isn’t just a bonus for her; it’s truly important. She gains comfort and confidence from having a dog friend to follow and learn from.

She loves other dogs and does well with cats, too!

And if she wasn’t cute enough already, Collins knows some Spanish! Bilingual queen energy.

She’s looking for a calm, stable home where she can continue building confidence at her own pace. In return, you’ll get unwavering devotion, endless snuggles, and a best friend who thinks you are the greatest thing that has ever happened.

Collins is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, and microchipped, and officially ready to start her next chapter with her forever family.

If you’ve been searching for a loyal little shadow with soulful eyes and an even bigger heart, Collins is waiting! 🤍 Apply to adopt at www.luckylabrescue.com

More about this rescue

Lucky Lab Rescue and Adoption is an all-volunteer rescue organization whose mission is to reduce the euthanasia rates and inhumane treatment of abandoned Labrador retrievers by finding them loving, forever homes. We have saved more than 1200 dogs Texas shelters over the past two years.

When lucky Labs come into Lucky Lab Rescue, they are immediately vetted with vaccinations, spayed or neutered, heartworm tested and wormed for internal parasites. All dogs receive complete veterinary care before they are adopted out. Also at Lucky Lab Rescue, each dog is temperament tested and evaluated for any signs of aggression and for activity level. Since our goal is to place our Labs in forever homes, it is important to know the general personality of each Lab, as we want to match potential adopters with dogs that would be the best possible fit for a successful adoption.

Most Labs that come into Lucky Lab Rescue are from shelters. Most are at risk of euthanasia, usually due to overcrowded shelters. Labs are one of the most popular breeds of dogs due to their loyal and family-oriented personalities. Labs are also one of the most overbred breeds and are the number one breed to be found in shelters. They also have one of the highest euthanasia rates. Some find it difficult that rescues can be breed specific, however, Lucky Lab Rescue and other Lab rescues make a huge impact on euthanasia rates just by rescuing Labs and Lab mixes alone.

The most popular color of Labs are yellow and chocolate. They tend to get rescued and adopted more often than black labs. Some shelters will automatically euthanize black Labs and some rescue organizations will accept the yellow and chocolate over the black Lab. We at Lucky Labs love our yellows and chocolates, but also feel very committed to rescuing black Labs due to their plight.

"The plight of the black dog refers to the low adoption rate and high
euthanization rate of black dogs in shelters. Black dogs are often
the last to be adopted from an animal shelter. You may not be
aware of how doomed black dogs are when they are brought
to the average animal shelter. Black dogs, particularly large
black dogs like Labradors or Lab mixes, have a very difficult
time getting adopted, and are euthanized at a staggering rate at
many animal control facilities throughout the country. The sad truth
is, they are overlooked in favor of lighter colored dogs."

We are not a shelter. We are a rescue organization and our dogs are housed at several different foster homes.
