My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Charlotte is five-years-old, sleek and shiny. She was adopted from us in 2022 and returned through no fault of her own. Her person made a brave decision to leave a volatile domestic situation and brought both dogs to safety. Afterward came another loving, impossible choice. Charlotte is still young, active, eager for engagement, and she needed more time and energy than were available. The other dog, older and a devoted champion of extended naps, fit the new life more comfortably.
So Charlotte came back.
But she came back with the good stuff. She knows how to live in a home. She understands routines. And she has a deep, unwavering belief that if you are somewhere, she should probably be there too. Not in a pushy way - in a we-are-a-team way. Movement in any direction is, to her, a group activity.
Yesterday I went out to visit her and she faced a small crisis of priorities. She wanted to play. She wanted to cuddle. Lesser minds would have picked one. Charlotte attempted both simultaneously.
She rolled onto her back in the grass, hind end wiggling with absolute glee, while trying earnestly to lever herself upward for kisses: Party on one end, devotion on the other.
It was ridiculous and wholehearted and completely wonderful.
Here is the truest thing about her: she refuses to let a hard turn in her story turn her hard. She is soft, affectionate, hopeful, and ready to attach herself to the next chapter with enthusiasm.
Charlotte is healthy, house-experienced, and would thrive with a person or family who enjoys an involved, playful, deeply loving companion. If you like being followed, consulted, and adored, she is very prepared for the position.

Additional adoption info

If all goes well and you decide to pursue adoption, you will be asked to complete a pre-adopt. Once your family, including any dogs, have also met with the dog you wish to adopt, your application will be submitted to the Adoption Committee for review. We estimate the pre-adoption process can take up to 14 days or longer.

Please note: AAS is committed to finding the best fit for each of our dogs. For this reason, we will accept multiple applications for a dog. In the case of multiple applications, we will select the applicant that is the best fit based on the needs of the dog.
