Charlie ACCT-A-243206 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to medical concerns. Charlie must have confirmed placement with an EXPERIENCED ADOPTER or RESCUE PARTNER by THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 29th by 10:00 am. Should Charlie’s medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change.
Due to being significantly overcapacity with animals and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted. If you are interested in an animal please contact ACCT Philly immediately. Due to limited space, timestamps may also be proceeded with early so it is imperative to let us know if you are considering adopting or tagging an animal.
Charlie came to the shelter with his friend Pinky after his owner was hospitalized and sadly could no longer care for them. At 11 years old, this handsome senior boy is adjusting to a lot of change in a short period of time. In addition to losing his home, Charlie has a known diagnosis of hyperthyroidism, having gone over a month without his medication prior to being brought to the shelter, and found to have a grade III/VI systolic heart murmur. He is now seeking placement with an experienced adopter or rescue partner who can provide him with the medical follow-up and stability he deserves.
Despite everything he’s been through, Charlie shows a gentle and thoughtful personality. When first approached in his condo, he may offer a soft hiss while he figures out new people, but he settles with patience and kindness. Once he sees that things are safe—especially if he observes his brother Pinky receiving affection—his curiosity shines through. Charlie will offer sniffs, adjust himself comfortably, and accept full-body pets, particularly enjoying gentle strokes along his shoulders and back. He may not be a fan of chin rubs just yet, and he appreciates a slow, respectful approach. His soft blinks as you say goodbye are a sweet reminder that he wants to connect—he just needs a quiet space to decompress and rebuild trust.
Charlie would do best in a calm, predictable home with an adopter experienced in managing his hyperthyroidism and heart murmur. With proper veterinary care, medication management, and a peaceful environment, this senior gentleman has so much love left to give. He would greatly benefit from going home with his brother Pinky if possible. While it is not required, keeping them together would be preferred to help ease their transition and provide comfort during this next chapter. If you are looking for a sweet and gentle tuxedo duo, then come to the shelter to meet them!
BEHAVIOR NOTES:
On 2/16 per staff: Hung out with Pinky & Charlie for a bit. Charlie was at the back of his kennel and gave a single hiss when I opened the condo. I sat in the cat condo with both of them for a few minutes to let them get use to my presence. Charlie was curious but avoidant at first. Once he saw Pinky accept pets from me, he became more interested in me. He gave me some sniffs on my hand and gave a small stretch of his legs to get in a more comfortable position. He allowed for all over pets but was not interested in chin pets. Favored pets on his shoulder/back area. When I was getting up to leave Charlie gave a soft hiss. When I was closing the door, Charlie gave me soft blinks. Very sweet boys who just need a quiet space to decompress and learn to trust again.
