This helps Rescue Dogs Rock NYC, Inc. with pet care costs.
Meet Eleanor (NY): The Tiny Hero Who Outsmarted the FDR
This scruffy little survivor recently ran one full mile through four lanes of northbound traffic on the FDR Drive. Yes, that FDR. A good Samaritan stopped cars in both directions to get a leash on her, and she’s been recovering — and thriving — in foster care ever since. Her rescuer named her Eleanor, after the First Lady who also braved the FDR. And now this miracle dog is ready for her forever family. Eleanor is a female Terrier mix, approximately 4 years old as of February 2026.
Why You’ll Fall in Love With Eleanor:
The Ultimate Shadow: If you’ve ever dreamed of a velcro dog, Eleanor is your girl. She follows you with total devotion — room to room, couch to kitchen, heart to heart.
Athletic & Smart: She lights up when she sees her harness, loves a good walk, and is a fetch champion (still perfecting the “return” part). Give her toys and she’ll happily entertain herself — especially if they have squeakers she can “liberate.”
Airborne: When she’s excited to see you, she pops straight up like a pogo stick. It’s pure joy in motion.
A Cuddle Bug: Eleanor's favorite place is curled up beside you or at your feet. She rolls over for belly rubs and nudges for pets.
Eleanor uses a crate without fuss, though she’d prefer to be with you. She politely coexists with dogs, but she would be happiest as a solo queen or with a laid-back doggy sibling. Eleanor needs someone who is home often or can bring her along for life’s adventures. She loves the car, loves exploring, and loves you. Because her FDR ordeal was traumatic, she’ll need a patient adopter who can help her continue building trust. She is, above all, a people dog — the kind who wants to be your whole world and will make you hers. This brave, joyful, scruffy little miracle has survived more than most dogs ever will. Now she’s ready for safety, love, and a forever home where she can finally exhale. If you think Eleanor might be your new best friend, apply online to adopt Eleanor at www.rescuedogsrocknyc.org. — she’s waiting to meet the person who will adore her as much as she already adores you. Eleanor's adoption fee is $500.
Please be sure to reference this pet's name as Eleanor (NY) in case of duplicate names within the rescue. Thank you!
RDR's adoption fees include the cost of spay/neuter/microchip at an RDR-approved facility, whether completed before adoption or if deferred because the pet is too young or has a medical issue. All pets are also current on age-appropriate vaccines at the time of adoption. Given technical constraints on this database, this pet's location may not be as listed here. We can, however, provide transport support for pets in foster at a considerable distance from the adopter.
