My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Socialization: Kia is a sweet pup that is in our Rescue Ranch with her 3 sisters. Kia is playful and loves other dogs. Kia can be nervous when first meeting new people, but will curl up next you once she gets to know you. Kia would do best in a home with no young children. She has not been tested with cats but does very well with young puppies and other dogs.

Training: Kia is a curious puppy, she will explore the whole house if you let her. She knows how to sit, down, kennel and recall. Her potty training is getting better every day and doesn’t have accidents very often. Kia loves to chew and does very well in a crate. All of the puppies are power chewers, and need kong or other strong toys. They enjoy chewing on ropes as well. Crating is needed for now for her own safety.

Activity requirements: Kia loves to run and play. She is a young energetic dog and would do best in a home with someone who loves to hike or run. A fenced in area would be a plus. Kia has been working on her leash manners and is getting better every day. She would require daily exercise. She loves tug and chase!

Fence requirements: Kia is an active dog and will need exercise every day. If her adoptive home does not have a fenced yard, she will need an active home with a solid exercise plan. Physical fences are preferred, but an invisible fence may be an option for her as well.

Personality: Kia is sweet and affectionate puppy! She enjoys play with other dogs, and likes to play tug and chew on her toys. She will destroy her plushies. She would do well in a home with another playful dog. She can be independent at times but still loves to curl up next to you on the couch. Kia really enjoys her training sessions and learning new things. She can be shy in new places and meeting new people but will warm up quickly.

Health history: Kia is a healthy puppy, she is spayed, microchipped, up to date on vaccines, and on monthly heartworm prevention. Her next leish test will be due in November 2026.

This dog originates from Greece where Leishmaniasis is endemic. They tested negative before coming to the USA, but the parasite can remain dormant in the system for many years, so potential adopters must be willing to commit to annual testing for the next 7 years. Typically, the test needs to be sent to a special lab, but any regular vet can draw the blood and send it to the lab. The cost of the test seems to vary widely by area, but is approximately $150-$250. or if your vet is willing to send the test to a veterinary college lab, cost can be as low as $80.

Foster comments: Kia is such a cute and sweet tri-color pointer puppy! She loves to play and snuggle up in the evening. She enjoys running and chewing on bones and Kongs. She's a very happy puppy and we're excited for her to find her happily ever after!

Foster location: Kalamazoo, MI

Guardian Angels: The typical adoption fee for our dogs is $490, however, Kia has had $100 of her adoption fee covered by her Guardian Angel in memory of Peach and another Guardian Angel has donated an additional $240 of her adoption fee! As a result, her adoption fee is $150. Read more about our Guardian Angel program here: https://givebutter.com/s34cU4

Transport note: We are able to arrange volunteer transport to get dogs from their foster home to their adopter as long as the adopter and the foster are within a 1,000 mile radius of each other and the adopter is located in the USA. If the adopter is more than 1,000 miles from the foster home, adoption would only be possible if the adopter is willing to drive the distance beyond the 1,000-mile transport limit. Long distance adoptions may also be possible if the adopter is willing to pay for a flight for getting their dog from the foster home to their location if the foster feels this is an appropriate arrangement for the specific dog. Canadian adopters would have to drive into the USA to pick up their dog, as we do not transport outside of the USA.
