My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Gus is currently getting some extra TLC in one of the shelter offices. Please ask at the front desk if you'd like to meet him!

This big, handsome fellow can't wait to find a quiet new home and bestie. Having spent the past decade in the same home with a couple of trusted caregivers, and with relatively little experience making new friends, Gus has understandably found his arrival at the shelter stressful. He is seeking a patient adopter to give him the chance to feel safe again, and who will gently gain his trust by offering him a more hands-off approach. Over time, given opportunities to seek interactions on his terms, and find comfort in his new routine, we expect Gus will make a lovely, mellow companion.

To aid in a low-stress transition for Gus, he will only be rehomed to a family without children or with kids at least 10 years of age, and as the only animal in his new home.

How to Adopt from Foothills Animal Shelter:
Visit the Shelter or one of our offsite adoption partner locations to find a pet. Once you’ve decided on an animal, you should check with staff to see the status and history of the animal. At this time, you can fill out an adoption application and visit with the animal.

We recommend you bring all family members to the Shelter to meet with the animal before you consider adopting. If you are interested in adopting a dog, bring any household dogs to the Shelter to determine if it is a good match. Also, if you rent your home, please bring the pet policy in your lease or rental agreement and contact information for your landlord.

Once your application is reviewed, you can pay the adoption fees and take your new pet home. It may take some time for your new pet to adjust to its new environment. If you have questions or concerns after adopting, please contact us at 303-278-7575.
