My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Grilled Cheese is a Shih Tzu/toy Poodle puppy. She is an adventurous pup who loves to explore. She likes to play with toys and often wrestles with her buddy. She loves to play fetch with a poof ball and is even learning to drop the ball after returning it. She gets along well with cats, but she can sometimes be over excited with them. She is an excellent office companion who happily plays and naps while her person works from home. Grilled Cheese sleeps in a crate at night with her buddy. After a couple of whines, she goes right to sleep. She generally sleeps through the night. She likes a nightlight in the room. She will sometimes choose to sleep in her crate for naps, though she prefers to nap in a bed near her people.

She does a good job of going to the bathroom when she is outside especially in the mornings. When in her room/pen, she usually goes on a mat. However, when she is out in the larger areas of the house, she tends to go wherever is convenient, needless to say she needs some work in that area. Grilled Cheese is playful and snuggly when in a room with her people. However, when she is out in the big house with lots of activity, she tends to become a bit more hyper. She is good with other dogs and cats and is Ok in a car. She is a great little dog!

A Quick but Important Note to All Adopters:
Please remember that none of our dogs arrive fully trained. Most come from tough or uncertain beginnings and may have never lived in a home or known basic routines. That means:

✧ They are not potty trained on arrival. Most dogs regress in potty training when moving to a new environment.

✧ They may lack basic manners (like leash walking or appropriate chewing).

✧ They’re learning, growing, and doing their best—but they will need patience, structure, and compassion to succeed.

The majority of these pups have lived in the confinement of a cage or kennel run for most - if not all - of their lives. Because of this, we strongly discourage the use of crates for anything other than vehicle transport. They deserve the chance to decompress and learn what true freedom and comfort feel like.

Our amazing foster homes work hard to start these dogs on the right path, but they are rescues, not finished products. These dogs need time, consistency, and a loving home willing to meet them where they are.

Also, breed designations are our best guesses based on appearance and behavior. We can't guarantee breed, size, adult weight, or coat type.
