My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Adoptable in: MA, RI, NH, CT, and VT

Good with dogs: Yes
Good with cats: Unknown, likely yes
Good with kids: Yes, dog-savvy kids
Crate trained: Yes
House trained: Mostly

Zaphire is a lively, confident girl with a big personality and an even bigger zest for life. She’s playful, fearless, and full of fun. This medium-energy pup loves to stay busy, whether that’s romping with dog friends, tossing her toys around, or bouncing through the snow like it’s the best day ever. After she’s had a chance to get her wiggles out, she’s equally happy to curl up on a blanket pile or snuggle in close, resting her head on her person.

Zaphire is a true social butterfly. She loves meeting new people and jumps right into life with tail wags and enthusiasm. She has done beautifully with a variety of dogs of different sizes and personalities. She enjoys playing but also adjusts quickly if another dog isn’t interested. While she hasn’t officially lived with cats, her friendly and adaptable nature suggests she would likely do well with proper introductions. She has been around children ages four to ten and does well, though like many playful pups, she would thrive with dog-savvy kids who can handle her excitement and help reinforce good manners.

Zaphire is fully crate trained and runs right in, happily waiting for her treat. She sleeps in her crate overnight and is crated during the workday. She may let out a brief cry if she’s still wound up, but settles quickly and has no accidents in her crate. She is mostly house trained and knows how to alert by pacing or heading toward the door. She does best with a consistent potty schedule or confinement if it’s been a few hours, as she won’t have accidents in her crate or pen. She’s eager to please, picks up skills quickly, and is working on her leash manners and recall. With continued structure and training, she will continue to thrive.

Zaphire is ready to bring joy, laughter, and lots of love to her forever home. Could she be the one for you?

More about this rescue

Our mission at Last Hope K9 Rescue is to save every possible dog we can from being euthanized within high-volume kill shelters throughout the U.S.

As the literal “last hope” of nearly every animal we serve, we work tirelessly to place each one within a stable, loving environment that can act as either their forever home, or the gateway to their forever home. We also strive to ensure that all of our adoptions and foster placements are the optimal fit for everyone involved, including our dogs. This leads to our second goal: enriching human lives through canine companionship. To us, you can’t have one without the other.

Lastly, we promote animal welfare by lobbying important initiatives that both protect and give voice to the voiceless. By fostering an environment of collaboration with other organizations that share our goals, and working together instead of in competition, we find that we accomplish more.
